This looks as fiercely competitive as would be expected, 20 runners and more than half the field could be given credible chances on recent form. Oscar Sam produced a career-best to win over this trip at Leopardstown a fortnight ago, he's up 7lb but could be capable of defying the handicapper for a trainer that won this contest in 2014. He brings the likes of Sutton Manor and Woodford Island right into contention while Mahler Ten and Presenting Percy were ahead of him over Christmas at Leopardstown. Runner-up that day was ISLEOFHOPENDREAMS, coming from an unpromising position on the inside rail before flying home on the outside to be denied in a head bobber. Despite the extra weight, he looks sure to grab a prize like this at some stage. The same trainer saddles The Crafty Butcher who has been in fine fettle in two runs since joining this yard. He is sure to run another big race in this while Carrig Cathal is an intriguing recruit to handicapping with a valuable claim to aid his chances. Glenloe is also starting a handicap for the first time and makes plenty appeal.
1. Isleofhopendreams
2. Oscar Sam
3. Glenloe
