Useful 7f winner at the Curragh (heavy) last November. Operating a notch or two below his best for Mark Fahey this year and possibly needed the run on all-weather/stable debut at Southwell in August. Will need to settle better if he's to get home on first crack at 1m, following further 9 weeks away.

Ground-versatile performer. Landed middle leg of hat-trick on return here (1¼m) in April. Back in form behind a progressive 3-y-o at Nottingham prior to finding it too much of a test at York (10.3f, soft) 6 days ago. This should be more his bag and has gone well off a quick turnaround previously.
Never looked like justifying support when bidding to land a third career heavy-ground handicap at Goodwood in June. Step back in the right direction when 4¼-length fourth over C&D on return latest. Now makes plenty of appeal back down markedly in grade, with yard going well.
Stylish winner of pair of 1m handicaps at Redcar (good) this year. As good as he's been for current yard when narrowly denied on contrasting ground at Hamilton prior to a forgivable effort (badly hampered) on return to Redcar latest. Well weighted on the pick of his recent form.
Won twice up to 9f (good) for Dermot Weld in Ireland last year. Useful runner-up in pair of Chester handicaps for present yard this summer, however, his form has regressed more recently.
Low-mileage 4-y-o. Belied unflattering odds to resume winning ways with an improved effort at Ayr (7f, heavy) last time, scoring comfortably/clearly relishing testing conditions. Certainly worth another go over 1m but probably needs to improve for it to defy a 7 lb rise in a better race.
Ex-Godolphin gelding. Showed improved form to double his tally in gutsy fashion over C&D (soft) last month (form has taken a few knocks). Probably found the race coming too soon at Hamilton subsequently, and the booking of Billy Loughnane suggests a return to form could be in the offing.
Capitalised on a good opportunity to get off the mark at Nottingham (1¼m) in June. Underlined a solid start in handicaps when beaten 5 lengths in Class 2 fillies handicap at York and clearly still in good nick (denied a run) at Newmarket latest. Could have a big say if handling conditions.
Won this corresponding event in 2024. Latest success came at Carlisle (1m, soft) last June. Went close twice off his current mark this season before adding to a patchy all-weather record at Southwell (1m) latest. Probably worth another chance on return to turf.
Veteran who has been making hay in soft/heavy-ground handicaps in recent weeks, recording a pair of wins and seconds, only headed late on/clear of the rest at Ayr (7f) latest. Still considerably lower in the weights than this time last year and can go well again.

Forecasts
Viper (15/8), Desperate Dan (7/2), Monoceros (6/1), Empirestateofmind (6/1), Tina's Indian (12/1), Empire Of Light (14/1), Rajapour (14/1), Food For Thought (16/1), On The River (20/1), Sujet (25/1)
DESPERATE DAN and Empirestateofmind both make plenty of appeal given the likely conditions, with Peter Chapple-Hyam's class-dropping 5-y-o narrowly preferred. In-form Food For Thought merits plenty of respect for the Ralph Beckett yard, while On The River won this corresponding event in 2024 and should fare better back on turf.
