Improving Camelot colt. Wasn't beaten far by a subsequent listed winner in a slowly-run race on qualifying run at Sandown (1m). Since finished ¾-length third on nursery bow over same C&D, shaping as though this extra furlong should prove within range. Sets a fairly useful standard back in a maiden.

Beaten 10½ lengths under hands-and-heels ride in Newmarket maiden (7f, 25/1) that's working out well. Should be suited by this extra distance second time up, though yard's juveniles are typically campaigned for the longer term.

Offered something to work on from an unhelpful draw when beaten 7½ lengths on debut at Beverley (7.5f). Plenty to find on form but is at least entitled to progress over this longer trip.

Stoutly-bred son of Ulysses. Finished with running left when third in an ordinary Beverley novice (7.5f) before well held in the Chesham. Gelded since beaten 5¼ lengths on qualifying run at Chester (6f) 10 weeks ago and could make more impact tackling a trip more in keeping with his pedigree.

Half-brother to useful 1¼m winner abroad. Showed promise amid inexperience when 3¾ lengths third (fifth won since) on racecourse bow at Kempton (1m). Should improve up in trip here, and he may well make it second time lucky with Oisin Murphy taking over.

Improved from his debut despite finding 7f on the short side when 2½ lengths third (fourth subsequent winner) in course maiden last month. Entitled to progress for this step up in distance and should be thereabouts with Billy Loughnane returning.

Offered something to work on when staying on to finish 8¼ lengths fifth (ahead of Mr Twig) at Newmarket (7f) first time up. Likely improver over this longer trip, especially as the second and sixth from that race have won subsequently.

Foaled April 2. Cracksman filly. Half-sister to very smart 1¼m-1¾m winner Hamish and useful 2-y-o 7f-1¼m winner Convict. Dam 1½m/12.4f winner. Excellent stable has enjoyed plenty of success with this family. No surprise to see her go well, for all this trip will probably prove short of her optimum.

Hasn't achieved much in a couple of 7f maidens here. Longer trip may benefit, however, he'll probably have more realistic opportunities when sent handicapping by his capable yard.

Forecasts

Wykehurst Park (9/4), Crown Ranger (3/1), Howluckyweare (7/2), Sydney Carton (8/1), Savingprivateparry (12/1), Cracking Idea (14/1), Strong Performance (16/1), Quintillion (16/1), Mr Twig (25/1)

Verdict

WYKEHURST PARK shaped with promise ahead of a next-time-out winner on debut. There's surely improvement to come, and he could get off the mark with Oisin Murphy taking over. Crown Ranger is feared most ahead of interesting newcomer Howluckyweare, with Cracking Idea also respected in an open-looking maiden.
