Won twice over hurdles last summer (including this race, for second successive year). Turned in a rare poor effort at the Curragh (2m) a fortnight ago and now reverts to hurdling in search of a hat-trick in this sphere.
High-class chaser (winner of the 2023 King George at Kempton) and no slouch in this sphere either, far from disgraced when ninth of 24 in handicap at Punchestown (23f, good to soft) 10 weeks ago. Hard to rule out with forecast quicker ground in his favour.
Finished runner-up in this last year when trading at short odds in-running. Went one better in a similar event at Kilbeggan the following month and has won on the Flat twice since, including at the Curragh (2m) a fortnight ago. Each-way claims back hurdling.
Useful hurdler who landed a match race here last August. Ran well below that level sent chasing after 7 months off at Ballinrobe (17f, good) in May and no surprise to see him quickly reverted to timber. Markedly upped in trip.
Useful hurdler who made light work of limited opposition in small-field maiden chase at Kilbeggan (25f, good) last July. Doubled his tally over fences at Stratford (23f, good to firm) when last seen in October and has a lower mark to work with in this sphere on return.
Very useful hurdler at his best who has now been placed on all 4 completed chase starts without looking a natural. Arrives in form so would be folly to ignore back hurdling.
Failed to revive for another change of yard at Limerick recently so can only be watched. Visor the headgear of choice this time.
Scored twice over hurdles at Punchestown last season. Only seventh of 8 back chasing at Limerick (2½m) in March though so something to prove reverted to hurdling after a break.
Smart hurdler who made his first chase start for nearly 2 years a winning one in 5-runner minor event at Clonmel in April. Backed up that effort when fourth of 8 in Grade 3 at Killarney (2½m) the following month but ran poorly in a handicap since. Well treated by these conditions back hurdling.
A success in France last autumn shows he's still useful at this late stage of his career and maintained his good record at Down Royal when second of 4 in minor event there in March. This a first hurdles start in over 4 years so probably best watched on return.
Without a win since June 2024 but has a good record at this time of year and left the impression she should have finished a fair bit closer when fourth of 16 at Ballinrobe (23f, good) in May. One to bear in mind back hurdling.

Forecasts
Maxxum (3/1), Hewick (7/2), Reverend Hubert (11/2), Smooth Tom (6/1), Happy Jacky (8/1), Topgun Simmy (8/1), Da Capo Glory (10/1), Roi Mage (10/1), Mousey Brown (16/1), Linden Arden (20/1), Desert Cave (66/1)
MAXXUM looks well treated by these conditions back hurdling, so Gordon Elliott's charge earns the vote reunited with Jack Kennedy at the expense of veteran Hewick, who was far from disgraced when finishing mid-field in a big-field handicap at the Punchestown Festival in late-April. Da Capo Glory and sole-mare Mousey Brown can fight out minor honours.
