Chester specialist who recorded his eighth course success when landing a 10-runner handicap there in May, beating Dubai Bling by a head. Not seen to best effect when eighth over 7f at the same venue last time and yard remains in top form, but he is 0-6 off marks of 100 or higher.

Useful sprinter who boasts a solid record at Newmarket and ran well when 5¼ lengths third of 13 to Double Rush there in April. Best not judged too harshly on his effort last time, losing place when short of room early. Yard among the winners and cheekpieces back on.

Proved better than ever when winning a 19-runner handicap at Doncaster in March, beating Akkadian Thunder by a length. Has a good record fresh, so the absence since is not a concern, and a 5 lb rise does not look excessive. A bold bid looks assured, especially if any rain arrives.

A dual listed winner for Archie Watson, has yet to score for his current yard but has shaped as if as good as ever in defeat. Excuses on last 2 starts and no surprise were he to return to from what looks an attractive mark.

Runner-up in the Portland at Doncaster and in a Group 3 at Ascot last season. Largely struggled in the Middle East early in 2026 but returned to form when 3¾ lengths third of 9 to Double Rush at Newmarket last month. Twice placed in this race in the past and looks likely to feature again.

Reliable performer won 4 times at 7f/1m last season, including twice at this course. Largely campaigned as a sprinter this year and showed plenty of speed when winning 16-runner 5f event at York a fortnight ago, beating Stratusnine by a head. May have more to offer.

Has improved this year, winning at Chelmsford and Wolverhampton before completing hat-trick at latter course last time, beating Havana Blast by 2¼ lengths. Needs to transfer that improvement back to turf but has run well at this course in the past.

Useful sort that won this race off a 7 lb lower mark last year and largely held form from higher marks afterwards. Had no chance racing on the stand side at York on return from 7-month absence last time. Needs to step up.

Developed into a useful sprinter in 2025, winning twice and showing marked improvement for the addition of blinkers when landing an 18-runner handicap at Newbury by 2 lengths from Charlie Manson in October. That success came on heavy ground, however, and the blinkers are now removed.

Regained the winning thread at Ripon in 2025 and followed up with a couple of fine efforts in defeat, notably going close in a big-field Doncaster handicap towards the end of the year. Shaped as if in need of the run on his return and went off favourite for this race last year from the same mark.

Won this race in 2023 and proved a good deal of his ability remains when winning 11-runner 0-85 handicap at Redcar 12 days ago by ½-length from Bravo Zulu. Remains well treated on old form despite 3 lb rise but this is a tougher assignment and others appeal more for win purposes.

Classy sprinter in his younger days who capitalised on a much-reduced mark and justified strong support when twice scoring at Lingfield last month, beating Invincible Speed by 4 lengths in a 5-runner event on the latter occasion. Runner-up in this race last year from a mark 4 lb higher.

Useful sort who shaped better than the bare result in this race last year off 2 lb lower mark before landing pair of sprint handicaps last summer. Has proven much too headstrong tackling 7f on his last 2 starts and will be well suited by this return to sprinting.

Formerly smart sprinter who tumbled down the weights in 2025 and showed more encouragement after a breathing operation and stable switch when second to Bolo Neighs in a 10-runner Ascot event on his return. This demands another significant forward step, though.

Fine Interview (15/8), Sondad (11/2), Apollo One (6/1), Strike Red (17/2), Partisan Hero (11/1), Solar Aclaim (14/1), Eye Of Dubai (14/1), Topwarrior (14/1), Purest Time (14/1), Gold Star Hero (18/1), Twilight Jet (20/1), Saint Lawrence (20/1), Invictus Gold (28/1), Roman Dragon (28/1), Badri (33/1), Kylian (40/1)

Verdict

APOLLO ONE is perhaps better known for his valiant efforts in defeat than his wins, but he remains a classy operator and, racing from his lowest mark in 3 years, is taken to better his 2 previous placings in this race and gain a deserved success. Fine Interview arrives on the back of an improved win and is sure to run well, while Solar Aclaim and Twilight Jet are also respected in a highly competitive sprint.
