Tramore Derby July 7th Beginners Chase

Off time: 17:20 | Winning time: 3m 49.10s

Bannow Blaze¹⁵⁴

Age: 6| Weight: 11-12| J: Brian Hayes| T: J Fogarty

9/1

Winner in at Wexford in October and ran at least as well when second at Cork next time. Not seen to best effect from a long way back when last seen at Leopardstown (2m) over Christmas and he's the type to take to chasing.

Boston Jury²³¹

Age: 6| Weight: 11-12| J: Danny Gilligan| T: G Elliott

25/1

Went backwards over hurdles last summer and failed to beat a rival in a 7-runner novice at Downpatrick on chase debut. Bit to prove after 7 months off.

Costacurta²¹⁴

Age: 6| Weight: 11-12| J: Darragh O'Keeffe| T: H De Bromhead| BF

2/1

Visually impressive when off the mark in a maiden hurdle at Kilbeggan last May. Didn't immediately kick on from that, though was back on track when third of 7 in a novice hurdle (3/1) at Wexford (2m, soft) when last seen in October. Bred to be at least as good over fences.

Form: 21373/

Endless Talking²¹

Age: 5| Weight: 11-12| J: Keith Donoghue| T: G P Cromwell

11/8

Point winner shaped with promise first 2 starts over hurdles before getting off the mark in straightforward fashion at Downpatrick (19f) 3 weeks ago. Likely type on chase debut.

Form: 17843/1

Jerrari^p²²

Age: 6| Weight: 11-12| J: Sean Flanagan| T: Mrs J Harrington| D

16/1

Won back-to-back handicap hurdles in cheekpieces last July and took a step back in the right direction with headgear refitted at Kilbeggan last month. Always behind making chase debut in a competitive event at Wexford (2m) 3 weeks ago and probably needs sights lowering.

Form: 47P05/8

Mercury Mission²²

Age: 7| Weight: 11-12| J: Liam McKenna⁽³⁾| T: P Cluskey| D

7/1

Left behind his winning hurdles form when runner-up on second start over fences at Clonmel (80/1). Confirmed that improvement when third under an aggressive ride at Wexford (2m) earlier in the month and sets a good standard amongst those with experience.

Form: 317U2/3

Nelson Muntz²⁸

Age: 7| Weight: 11-12| J: Danny Mullins| T: D H Kelly| D

10/1

Fairly useful over hurdles and he proved pretty consistent on the whole in that sphere last season, albeit turning in a rare poor effort on the back of a Flat pipe-opener at Punchestown 4 weeks ago. Makes chase debut here but is probably more effective over further.

Form: 343430/

Game Phoenix¹⁵

Age: 5| Weight: 11-5| J: Dylan Whelan⁽⁷⁾| T: Paul Power

50/1

Seemingly failed to stay when tenth of 11 in novice chase at Thurles (2¼m, good to soft) on chase debut back in October and might've needed the run after a 7-month absence back hurdling at Clonmel 2 weeks ago. Others still preferred given another crack at chasing.

Form: 05330/9

Forecasts

Endless Talking (11/8), Costacurta (2/1), Mercury Mission (7/1), Bannow Blaze (9/1), Nelson Muntz (10/1), Jerrari (16/1), Boston Jury (25/1), Game Phoenix (50/1)

ENDLESS TALKING was unchallenged when scoring over hurdles at Downpatrick earlier in the month and both his background as a successful pointer and physical scope suggests he'll make an even better chaser. Mercury Mission has made a fine start to his chasing career and sets a lofty bar for the selection, with another chase newcomer Costacurta completing the shortlist.
