Returned to turf with 5f handicap win at Musselburgh (soft) over Easter. Hasn't reproduced that in 2 outings on a sounder surface since but there's nothing wrong with the Musselburgh form and perhaps the return to more testing ground will see him in a better light.

Added 3 more wins over 5f last year. Respectable third of 6 in handicap at Doncaster (6f, good to firm) 19 days ago, fading inside the final 1f. Has to enter calculations back at 5f.

Front runner who scored twice over 6f on all-weather around the turn of the year but has been operating a little below that level since. Needs a return to turf to spark a revival.

Scored 3 times on all-weather/turf during a productive 2024 but has looked on the downgrade for a while, beating only 1 rival in total in 3 all-weather outing this year. Lots to prove in first-time tongue tie.

C&D winner. Fifteen runs since last win in 2025 but back on form when second at Beverley (5f, good to firm) in April. A slow start offers some mitigation for a lesser effort there since. Very much at home under today's likely ground conditions. Player with first-time cheekpieces added to tongue tie.

Visored first time, creditable third of 7 in handicap at Lingfield (5f, good) last July but not seen since. No headgear on return. The yard's sprinters have been in form but might be best watched given the length of absence.

Forecasts

Trilby (15/8), Wheels Of Fire (15/8), Brummell (5/1), The Bell Conductor (11/1), Isle Of Lismore (11/1), Accrual (12/1)

Verdict

TRILBY goes well at Haydock and with ease in the ground. It's also possible first-time cheekpieces could give him a lift so he has plenty in his favour having dipped to a good mark (won off 7 lb higher last spring). Wheels of Fire could pose the chief threat if bouncing back to the form he showed when winning a competitive race on soft ground at Musselburgh over Easter.
