Landed a valuable sales race at York (6f, good to firm) last August and went close to landing another at the following month's Doncaster St Leger meeting (6.5f, good). Only a respectable fifth of 15 in the Redcar 2-y-o Trophy final start. Makes handicap debut from a lofty mark.

Useful colt who opened his account in a 5f Hamilton maiden (good to soft) in September. Good second in the listed Rockingham at York (6f, good) in October before bombing out on heavy ground at Doncaster on final start. Makes handicap debut on return from a mark which demands a smart performance.

Winner of Nottingham maiden and Haydock nursery over 5f last summer. Bit below form when 5 lengths fourth of 8 to Revival Power in listed Roses Stakes at York final start. Steps back up to 6f for reappearance with William Buick on yard's other runner.

Winning debut over C&D (good to firm) last May. Given time after disappointing in the Chesham at Royal Ascot 5 weeks later and has confirmed he's a useful sort when reaching the frame in conditions events over 7f and 1m at Meydan this year. Gelded ahead of handicap debut back down in trip. Player.

6f debut win last May and also second in a Sandown listed race a fortnight later. Shaped quite well (met trouble) when seventh of 19 in 6f nursery at the York Ebor meeting last August. Not at best in Group 3/conditions event on final 2 starts but that York effort makes him of interest here.

Runner-up in Group 3 Sirenia at Kempton for David O'Meara last autumn. Hasn't fully confirmed that improvement since but he has made a respectable start for Archie Watson, including third at Southwell (6f) last month. Did too much too soon at Newcastle on Good Friday. First-time cheekpieces added.

Looked a smart prospect when winning 6f novices at Nottingham (good to soft) and Carlisle (soft) on his first 2 outings. That made his subsequent 3 efforts as a juvenile disappointing but wouldn't be a big shock were he to bounce back having been gelded.

Age: 3|  Weight: 8-13| J: Thomas Greatrex| T: Charlie Pike| OR:  90| D
Fairly useful turf winner in Ireland last year but well held at listed level on his final 2 starts. Gelded ahead of this reappearance for a new stable. Others are more obvious.

Confirmed debut promise to win 4-runner maiden at Brighton (6f, good) in September and quite a useful effort when following up in a 5f novice at Beverley 3 weeks later. Should be more to come from him in handicaps this year.

Age: 3|  Weight: 8-11| J: S M Levey| T: R Hannon| OR:  88| D
Fairly useful form, making it 3-6 for her 2-y-o campaign when battling well to shade a tight finish in 6f Newbury nursery (heavy; also won on good to firm) in October. Only raised 2 lb for that and ought to be competitive if ready to roll after 173 days off.

Raced at 6f, winning Brighton maiden (good to firm) and Salisbury novice (soft) on first 2 starts last autumn. Lost his unbeaten record when last of 4 in conditions race back at Salisbury in October but wasn't seen to best effect having been held up in a tactical race. Remains open to improvement.

Progressive form. Faced a straightforward task in a 6f Wolverhampton maiden on reappearance 17 days ago but still did it very easily and the handicapper has taken a chance leaving his mark unchanged. Leading claims.

Progressed well last autumn, comfortably landing short odds in 7f Wolverhampton maiden on final start. This half-sister to connections' smart sprinter Almeraq appeals as one who will keep on improving for a while yet.

Improved a bit with each start, opening his account at the fourth attempt in a 6f Wolverhampton maiden at the end of August. Fitted with cheekpieces for his handicap debut/reappearance. Not obviously well treated.

Verdict

SOVEREIGN SPELL had a lot to spare in a Wolverhampton maiden last month. The fourth in that race won last week and the handicapper could have been lenient in leaving this Invincible Spirit colt's mark unchanged. Fellow Wolverhampton maiden winner Albaydaa should have more to offer this season and is second choice ahead of Treanmor and First Legion, who shaped well in a strong York nursery in his previous handicap.
