Readily ended a losing run in small-field veterans handicap chase at Carlisle (3m) 38 days ago. Up 5 lb now and this is much tougher.

Back to winning ways in first-time cheekpieces in 17-runner handicap chase over C&D 11 days ago. Up 6 lb but jumped really well there so can't be ruled out with headgear retained.

Winning hurdler who has made up into an even better chaser this season, defying a further 10 lb rise when bringing up the hat-trick at Warwick in January. Pulled up in Grand Annual at the Cheltenham Festival last time but he's the sort to bounce back.

Took this 12 months ago (when at Cheltenham) and he caught the eye when in mid-field in the Plate at the Cheltenham Festival last month, hampered last but still faring best of those held up. Interesting off a reduced mark for yard firmly among the winners.

Progressive sort who bagged a pair of handicap chases at Killarney and Cheltenham in October. Returned from a break with a very good fifth of 23 in the Plate at the Cheltenham Festival last time. That form is working out well so this Irish raider is a player off the same mark here.

December Gold Cup winner at Cheltenham in 2023. Winless since but his mark has dropped significantly and back in good form of late, running well (in first-time visor) when unseated rider 3 out over C&D 11 days ago. Visor retained.

Much improved over fences this season for his current yard, readily going in over C&D in February before a good seventh of 18 in Jack Richards at the Cheltenham Festival when set a lot to do. Capable of better still.

Twelve runs since his last win in 2025 but he excelled himself in a first-time visor when third of 23 in the Plate at the Cheltenham Festival last time. In the mix if the headgear works the oracle again.

Without a win since June 2024 and he reverts to chasing having faced stiff tasks over hurdles at Leopardstown and Doncaster on her last 2 runs. Cheekpieces go on for the first time.

Forecasts

The Bluesman (10/3), Riskintheground (4/1), Zurich (9/2), Outlaw Peter (6/1), Moon D'orange (10/1), Triple Trade (12/1), Mousey Brown (12/1), Tommy's Oscar (14/1), Jour D'Evasion (18/1), Fugitif (22/1), Bleu D'enfer (25/1)

Verdict

Dan Skelton continues to bang in the winners and his handily-weighted RISKINTHEGROUND, who took this event a year ago, looks the way to go having caught the eye when not enjoying the rub of the green in the Plate at the Festival last time. Irish challenger Zurich also comes here on the back of a good Festival effort in the Jack Richards and heads the list of dangers. The Bluesman, Outlaw Peter and Jour d'Evasion also need factoring into this cracking handicap.
