Improved in first-time blinkers when second of 6 in 1¼m handicap at Lingfield on latest start, despite his quirks again being in evidence. Certainly has the ability to win a race of this nature.

1,500,000 gns yearling, Dubawi gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including smart 1¼m-1½m winner Morgan Le Faye and useful 1½m winner Emotion. Dam 11f-2½m winner, won Prix du Cadran. Lots to like on paper even if the fitting of headgear is a bit off-putting.

€100,000 Zarak gelding who improved on his debut form when second in 9-runner maiden at Doncaster a fortnight ago, running on. Likely has more to offer now stepping back up in trip and of major interest.

Showed more than first time up when second of 4 in maiden at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 18 days ago, plugging on. Likely to be suited by the still longer trip but needs another big step forward.

Forecasts

Al Azd (15/8), Sailor Song (2/1), King Of Thebes (3/1), Stepanov (7/1), Sir Griflet (16/1), Masterpiece (66/1), Guthrum (66/1)

Verdict

SAILOR SONG built on his debut promise when runner-up at Doncaster recently and, with the step back up in trip likely to trigger further improvement, he's taken to make it third time lucky. His stablemate King of Thebes has a most attractive pedigree and has to be feared for all that the fitting of headgear on debut is a little disconcerting. Al Azd has more than enough ability to win one of these if keeping his quirks in check.
