Conformed debut promise for Fergal O'Brien 10 months earlier with victory in 4-runner bumper over C&D (good to soft) last month, best suited by the test of speed. Merits respect under a penalty.

Califet gelding. Dam 17f hurdle winner in France out of French hurdler/chaser (winner up to 21f) Salsa Melody.
Timeform
Telescope gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to fairly useful hurdle winner around 2m Tedtwo. Market for clues.
Timeform
£75,000 4-y-o, Idaho gelding. Dam unraced. Dam unraced daughter of half-sister to useful chaser up to 3m Sraid Padraig, family of top-class 2m/3¼m chaser Strong Promise. Runner-up sole outing in Irish points (Nov 2025) and makes plenty of appeal for top southern stable.
Timeform
Seemed unsuited by emphasis on speed when 12¼ lengths last of 4 to Connells Cross in bumper over C&D (good to soft, 10/1) on last month's debut. Needs a sizeable step forward.

Timeform
€32,000 3-y-o, Tunis gelding. Dam, French maiden hurdler, 1½m winner on Flat, half-sister to useful hurdler (winner around 2m) Khrisma. Makes some appeal on paper and one to watch closely in the betting.
Timeform
Order of St George gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to useful hurdler/smart chaser (stayed 21f) Lady Buttons. Yard knows this family well.

Forecasts

The Gem State (8/11), Connells Cross (11/4), Mords Lavie Spigao (7/1), Datstheholyallofit (16/1), Smart Order (25/1), Dolly Dior (25/1), Hillsteels Blue (33/1), Scopic (33/1)

Verdict

THE GEM STATE makes obvious appeal having joined a top stable after finishing second on his sole outing in Irish points, so he's taken to add to his trainer's excellent record at this track by making a winning start under Rules. Mords Lavie Spigao is another likely type on paper and one to watch closely in the betting, while recent C&D winner Connells Cross merits consideration under a penalty, too.
