From a good jumping family and fair form when reaching the frame in 3 bumpers. However, didn't show much on recent hurdles debut at Huntingdon and this 5-y-o is likely to need more time.

A 3-time winner on the Flat, equipped with blinkers when signing off his time with Ed Walker with victory at Salisbury in October but offered precious little starting out for new yard on hurdles debut at Newbury (since undergone a breathing operation).

Created a good impression when making all in 5-runner bumper at Ascot on debut in November. Has acquitted himself pretty well on his last 2 starts in this sphere and he has strong claims in this company.

Won only outing in Irish points and has improved with each of his 3 starts since switched to hurdles, most recently finding just one too good at Catterick. Major player.

Fair maiden on Flat at up to 1½m but sent off at 80/1 and beaten a country mile starting out over hurdles at Newbury last month.

Runner-up twice on the Flat for Ed Walker last year but no show both starts for new connections, including on hurdles debut at Plumpton in January.

Dual winner at around 1½m on the Flat in France but made an unpromising start over hurdles for new connections at Ascot.

Pulled up both starts over hurdles in France and will need to leave those efforts well behind on debut for new yard if he's to have a say in the finish here.

Fairly useful maiden at best on the Flat (stays 1¾m) for Andrew Balding but lost his way in that sphere at the end of last summer and efforts over hurdles to date have not been at all promising.

Forecasts

Myrighthandman (11/10), Loustic Du Chatel (13/8), Flash Man (6/1), Eternity Rose (8/1), Bowling Shane (20/1), Into Battle (25/1), Seeking Charles (25/1), Canopus (40/1), T R Five (66/1), Whisky Max (100/1), Wise Counsellor (200/1), Nicely Curved (200/1)

Verdict

LOUSTIC DU CHATEL needs to learn to settle but there's clearly ability there and he could prove hard to catch round here. Indeed, a reproduction of his second to a potentially very useful Skelton-trained novice at Huntingdon in January would probably be good enough to see him home in front. The only conceivable danger is Myrighthandman, who is going the right way and should get his head in front before long.
