Fair form in maidens on the Flat in Ireland and runner-up on second start in this sphere over C&D last February. However, recent efforts (on the level and hurdling) have not been anywhere near so good and improvement needed now pitched into a handicap hurdle for the first time.

Well-bred gelding who showed promise when fourth in 2m maiden/novice hurdles in the autumn. Didn't appear to get home (eventually pulled up) upped to 19.5f on handicap debut at Lingfield and this 5-y-o is worth another try back down in trip here.

Bumper winner on Rules debut and built on the promise of his qualifying run over hurdles when third in handicap here (20.5f, good to soft) in December. Testing conditions perhaps not ideal at Fontwell since and he's not without hope now back at the minimum trip.

10/1
Modest performer on the Flat and while he has failed to trouble the judge on 3 of his 4 starts in this sphere, a reproduction of his close second to a long odds-on shot in a C&D novice on penultimate start would give him a fighting chance now switched to handicap company.

Firmly back on track when doubling his tally in this sphere with a narrow success in an 8-runner Market Rasen handicap (16.6f, good to soft) at the beginning of the month. 3 lb nudge fair enough and needs considering with Gavin Sheehan again in the hot-seat.

Regressive on the Flat and while he responded well to the first-time blinkers added when bagging a Doncaster juvenile on second hurdles start, there wasn't much to shout about at Kempton next time. Improvement needed with cheekpieces enlisted on handicap bow in this sphere.

air maiden on the Flat (stays 1½m) for Jamie Osborne. Better over hurdles when fourth in 2m Kempton juvenile last month but subsequent handicap debut over this C&D was rather disappointing.

Forecasts

Kalkaroo (13/8), Kool Kid (9/4), Frank Stamper (15/2), Blue Sky Dreaming (15/2), Reteti (10/1), Dissident (16/1), Dr Waksman (16/1)

Verdict

Having justified strong support with a career-best display at Market Rasen last time, KALKAROO is taken to follow up here off just a 3 lb higher mark. If able to get back on track Reteti could prove most troublesome, though Blue Sky Dreaming remains of interest despite failing to complete last time and Kool Kid also has a chance.
