Promising start when third in an Aintree bumper in November, faring best of those close up before facing a tough ask when well beaten in listed event at Cheltenham on New Year's Day. Worth another chance to build on his debut effort.

Ran to a fair level on debut when second in bumper at Exeter in October, the winner scoring over hurdles next time. Tenth of 16 in listed contest at Cheltenham on her second outing, but he could bounce back returned to calmer waters.

Jack Hobbs gelding. Dam, 2m-2½m chase winner, closely related to fair French hurdle winner/useful chaser (17f-2¾m winner) Ebene du Breuil. Yard won this race with a newcomer last year, so he merits consideration.

Westerner gelding. Brother to bumper winner/fairly useful hurdler Cappucino. Dam unraced. May just be better for this first experience.

Dartmouth gelding. Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler/chase winner My Bobby Dazzler. In hood for debut. Watch for market clues.

Bred to stay well and finished well beaten first time up when ninth of 14 in bumper at Kempton (16f, soft) 20 days ago. Looks one for the longer term.

Masterstroke gelding. Dam modest 2m-2¼m hurdle winner. Yard capable of readying a newcomer so he's one to note on debut.

Made some appeal on pedigree and was well backed (10/3) for debut but could finish only ninth of 12 in bumper at Newbury (16.3f, good to soft) in December. Could fare better with hood now added.

Linda's Lad filly. Dam, placed in point, half-sister to fairly useful chaser (stays 25f) Lounge Lizard out of smart 2m hurdle winner Lifestyle. Might be one for further down the line.

Forecasts

Don't Rein Me In (10/3), Berkshire Woody (7/2), Littlebobbydazzler (9/2), Squib (11/2), Storm Cracker (7/1), Jackmart (17/2), Tythingman (12/1), Jersey Tex (14/1), Soldier In Defence (33/1), Twiddle Dee (50/1)

Verdict

Preference is for BERKSHIRE WOODY, who did well under the circumstances when third at Aintree on debut before finding it tough in a listed race at Cheltenham last time. Back down in grade he is taken to get off the mark, though Don't Rein Me In also ran in the same Cheltenham contest and is respected, with Squib the pick of the newcomers.
