Smart handicapper who made a bold bid to repeat his win in the race 12 months earlier when third in 10-runner event at Kempton (5/2) 24 days ago, worn down final strides. Likely to remain competitive.
Promise on first 2 starts last term, including when mid-field in the Ebor, but lesser effort when seventh of 13 in Mallard Stakes at Doncaster (14.5f, good). Left Roger Varian's yard for 60,000 gns and gave the impression the outing was needed following 5 months off on recent yard debut at Kempton.
Made a winning return from 23 months off when landing Wolverhampton handicap (12/1) just over a fortnight ago, proving all his ability is intact. He did have a hard race, however, and a relatively quick turnaround has to be a concern.
Won his first 2 starts over hurdles in the autumn prior to finding only a smart prospect too good in a listed juvenile at Wetherby in late October. Returns to the Flat on a very workable mark based on the form of his second at Goodwood last summer, and is likely to go well.
Took his form up a notch last season, winning twice at Ascot. Shaped as if needing the run back from 5 months off at Newcastle and then run best excused at Kempton last time having been forced to race wide throughout.
Showed improved form when off the mark in a maiden at Haydock (10.2f) last August and shaped well over a 2f longer trip in a competitive handicap at Newmarket on final outing, faring best of those held up in a steadily-run race. Remains open to improvement.
Has had a most productive winter on all-weather, making it 4 wins from his last 6 starts in 6-runner handicap at Wolverhampton (5/1) earlier in the month, suited by the emphasis on speed up in trip. Now 5 lb higher in a better race and still longer trip not sure to suit given free-going tendencies.

Forecasts
Respond (1/1), Ammes (10/3), Paradias (7/2), Towerlands (10/1), Nolton Cross (16/1), Night Breeze (16/1), Shadow Dance (50/1)
RESPOND caught the eye from an unpromising position in a valuable 3-y-o handicap at Newmarket on his final outing at 3 and surely has more to offer at 4 yrs given his useful-looking physique, so he's an appealing candidate. Paradias will continue to give a good account, with Ammes also feared returning to this code from what appears a workable mark.
