Landed back-to-back C&D wins in the mud last February, including this race. Hasn't managed to reproduce that form switched to fences this winter but could be dangerous if a return to hurdles sees him recapture his best form.

Snapped a 3-year losing run when edging out Velvet Vulcan over C&D (soft) last month. While he hardly has the profile of one likely to follow up that was a well-contested race and he should remain very competitive off 3 lb higher.

Two-time winner for Fergal O'Brien last winter. Second on Hexham yard debut last summer but has struggled since.

Second on Perth handicap debut last spring. Struggled in first 4 starts this season but back to form with cheekpieces added (retained) when close second at Newcastle a fortnight ago. The winner has gone in again since and he looks well treated off 2 lb higher if the headgear works again.

Well beaten in 3 novice hurdles over 2m here this winter. More realistic chance now handicapping but Velvet Vulcan looks the stable first string unless the betting hints otherwise.

Modest 2m Flat winner who posted his best effort yet in this sphere when second of 19 to So Many Roads over C&D (soft) 39 days ago, just failing despite racing keenly and making his ground out wide.

Chased home The Jeweller's Pet in this race last year. Also runner-up over fences at Hexham last March but has failed to recapture that form this season, finishing a long way behind a few of these over C&D last time.

Forecasts

Burning It Up (2/1), So Many Roads (9/4), Velvet Vulcan (9/2), The Coffey Boy (8/1), The Jeweller's Pet (17/2), Big Storm Brewing (12/1), Lewa House (16/1), Bray Dale (25/1), Ck O'mara (66/1), Jakana (80/1)

Verdict

BURNING IT UP was clear with a next-time winner at Newcastle a couple of weeks ago and could prove the answer to this opener if showing up in similar form. Velvet Vulcan can turn around last month's C&D form with So Many Roads and give Nick Alexander's charge most to do. Last year's winner The Jeweller's Pet is another who could have a say.
