Unreliable sprinter who refused to race at this C&D 17 days ago, then returned to form when fifth of 9 in handicap here (16/1) 6 days ago over 7f, slowly into stride but staying on. Leap of faith required.

Won at this C&D in October before flopping in November. Wasted no time getting back to form when second of 11 in handicap at this C&D (18/1) 13 days ago and fancied to be in the mix again.

Left Jane Chapple-Hyam in October and struggled on stable debut, but ran more encouragingly when upped in trip on second start for new yard, fifth of 12 in 7f handicap at Wolverhampton (9/1) 48 days ago. Back down in trip will need to improve again to feature.

Went close over 5f here last month but not in the same form up 3 lb over that C&D on Wednesday. Back up in trip now.

Winless since last July and isn't the most consistent. Second of 5 in handicap at Kempton (5/6 fav) 18 days ago, faring better than 3 months prior but still some way below her best. Needs to recapture peak form.

Runner-up twice in last three starts at 6f including when second of 10 in handicap at Southwell (8/1) 17 days ago, settling better and having every chance entering final furlong. In the shake up with a repeat.

Improved since a second breathing operation, winning twice in last 4 starts, latest after 3 months off in 10-runner handicap at Southwell (25/1) 17 days ago, quickening to lead over 1f out. High on the shortlist following a 5 lb rise.

Won back-to-back C&D handicaps in November, the latest in 7-runner event (9/2), allowed to do his own thing in front but just clinging on by a short-head from one ridden in stark contrast. Up 3 lb and is forced up in grade.

Left Michael Bell in September and fared better on third start for new connections when fifth of 11 in handicap at this C&D (50/1) 13 days ago, led and took strong hold before weakening over 1f out. Needs to build on that.

Ran well when second of 9 in handicap at Chelmsford (9/2) 8 days ago, doing well under the circumstances given how hard he went over a trip that arguably stretches him. Others more appealing kept to this trip, however.

Won twice in the summer and returned to that form when successful in handicap at this track (14/1) 6 days ago, travelling well before leading final 100 yards. Never been the most prolific and isn't an obvious type to follow up under a penalty despite the reapplication of a visor.

Forecasts

Hundred Caps (10/3), Arnhem (6/1), Abduction (15/2), Twilight Fun (17/2), Sergeant Pep (17/2), Bright (9/1), Northern Spirit (10/1), Trouble Man (10/1), Raatea (12/1), Shallow (14/1), Fortamour (14/1), Dorney Lake (22/1)

Verdict

BRIGHT added another win at this venue to his resume just under 6 weeks ago and a 4 lb rise may not be enough to prevent him from following up. He gets the nod over Hundred Caps, who caused a bit of a surprise when making a winning return at Southwell last month and has fewer miles on the clock than most in this. Raatea and the penalised Abduction round off the shortlist in a competitive-looking sprint.
