Created a good impression when winning a maiden and novice hurdle at Ffos Las last season. Off 10 months before pulled up on his chasing bow there (25f) in October and needs a major step forward here with cheekpieces applied, though he's always looked as if he'll stay long distances.

Plenty of good efforts in defeat since last win, including when a plugging-on third in Tommy Whittle at Haydock 7 weeks ago. Thorough stayer holds solid claims again.

Hasn't shown much in recent seasons and predictably struggled from out of the handicap in the Welsh National at Chepstow last time. Hard to fancy.

Veteran who ended a long losing run when scoring at Fakenham in October and improved on that form when taking 6-runner handicap (29.1f, soft) at same course under this rider in December. Out of depth in much better race at Windsor since and others make greater appeal overall.

Suited by long distances and ended last season with victory over a marathon trip at Hexham. Better than ever when making a winning return here in October and ran respectably from 3 lb higher mark at Uttoxeter next time. Others perhaps better treated now but can give good account.

Has long looked as if he'll stay long distances and hasn't shaped too badly around 3m in 3 starts this winter, not beaten far when third of 4 in handicap chase at Plumpton (25.7f, soft, 5/2) 11 days ago. Interesting now asked to go over further.

Got off the mark in Haydock handicap chase in December 2024 and arrives here in good form, backing up a solid fourth at Newcastle with another good second at Ayr (24.1f, soft) 35 days ago. Back up in trip. Visor on 1st time. Yard form still a concern, though.

Took some time to score on these shores but landed a handicap hurdle at Lingfield around this time last year and ended a lengthy drought over fences when scoring at that same course (23.5f, soft) 18 days ago. Reason to believe he'll stay this extended trip and he's not discounted from 5 lb higher.

Improving last winter, winning at Leicester before following up 4 weeks later at Taunton (23f, good to soft). Still unlikely we've seen the best of him but returns from 11-month absence with yard in the doldrums.

Sole win under Rules came on debut almost 4 years ago but his mark slipped and he posted a creditable effort when second of 5 in a veterans' handicap at Catterick (25.2f, good to soft) last month. This looks tougher but he can give anther good account.

Fair handicap hurdler and belatedly proved himself as good over fences when runner-up at Hereford in December. Built on that to win an 11-runner event there (25.2f, soft) 25 days ago, albeit not jumping with great fluency. Still interesting from 5 lb higher mark.

Not the easiest to catch right but there was some encouragement over an inadequate trip at Ludlow in December. Failed to justify support when sixth in a big-field handicap at Windsor (won race last year) 3 weeks ago but he remains on an eye-catching mark and can't be dismissed.

Promising second of 14 on 23f Worcester chase debut in June 2024 and was notably well backed when coming home last of 3 finishers in a Hereford race won by Ithaka on return last month, the outing clearly needed. Should still do better, though is 3 lb out of weights this time.

Forecasts

Planned Paradise (5/1), Gold Emery (13/2), Jacks Parrot (7/1), Ithaka (7/1), Wal Buck's (8/1), Camulus (8/1), Rosscahill (8/1), Georges Saint (12/1), Icaque de L'Isle (12/1), Just In A Bit (12/1), Betterforeveryone (14/1), Pats Fancy (16/1), Enjoy D'allen (25/1)

Verdict

JACKS PARROT tends to give his running in these marathon handicaps and the 7-year-old looks a reliable option on the back of a good third in the Tommy Whittle. Planned Paradise isn't the most straightforward but he's on a really handy mark and the promise of his penultimate start at Ludlow shouldn't be discounted, with Ithaka also considered if able to back up his recent Hereford win.
