Winning pointer/hurdler who shaped as well as he has over fences when runner-up over 22f at Lingfield on reappearance but paid the price for forcing the pace in a better race over a longer trip at Cheltenham latest. Drops markedly in distance but should be more competitive in calmer waters.

Fairly useful winner over fences for Richard Bandey but underlined his inconsistency for current connections when running poorly at over a longer trip at Hereford last month. Isn't one for maximum faith.

Notched 5 wins over fences on heavy ground in 2023/24 (also went close off 1 lb higher at Fontwell last season) and shaped as if as good as ever when runner-up on return over 2½m at Wincanton. On a handy mark now and forecast rain would be in his favour.

All 5 of his wins have come at Plumpton but he ran poorly after 9 months off when last of 5 in handicap chase there (17f, good) on his return in November. Something to prove in a change of headgear.

Won a 4-runner Newton Abbot chase on stable debut before following up with something to spare over hurdles at Exeter. Has continued in fine heart with seconds in 2m handicap hurdles at Huntingdon/Wincanton and he could have more to offer back over fences.

Won over C&D on chase debut last season (heavy) and has returned in fine heart, making it a hat-trick of runner-up finishes when no match for well backed winner at Chepstow (16.1f, good to firm) 13 days ago. Should give another good account.

Fair winner on handicap debut at Navan prior to losing her way for Henry De Bromhead. Ran one of her better races when fourth over hurdles on stable debut (best forgiven latest run) but remains to be seen this Flat-bred mare can build on that now sent chasing in a first-time tongue strap.

Has a good record at this course, finishing last season on a high when runner-up over 19f here. Looked rusty on reappearance at Chepstow last month and no surprise to see him closer to form with that run under his belt.

3-time winner last season but has endured an underwhelming campaign this time around, let down by his jumping in first-time blinkers (retained) at Ludlow latest. Remains with questions to answer.

Fair maiden hurdler for Ross O'Sullivan in Ireland and stepped up on debut for new yard when fourth in 14-runner handicap at this course (18.5f, heavy) 35 days ago. His dam was related to a fairly useful chaser but market may prove best guide now tackling fences.

Lightly raced for age and bounced back to his best in a race run to suit when 6-length winner of a 13-runner handicap chase at Hereford (20.9f) on reappearance. Drops back in trip but there looks to be pace in the race again here and he's a player if arriving in similar form.

Forecasts

Haas Boy (2/1), Risk De Pluie (10/3), Passing Kate (5/1), Kingcormac (7/1), Royal Mer (15/2), Bonza Boy (8/1), W B Easy (18/1), Alto Alto (33/1), Love Me (33/1), Paddy In The Caddy (50/1), Wewillgowithplanb (100/1)

Verdict

ROYAL MER has fallen to a handy mark and may be able to go one better than on reappearance at Warwick last month. He'll appreciate any rainfall, as will Bonza Boy who has a good record at this track and should step forward from his comeback run. Of the rest, Kingcormac was successful at Hereford last time and could feature again if they go a good pace, while course winners Passing Kate and Haas Boy cannot be discounted in an open-looking handicap.
