Veteran had a productive time of things last season, culminating with a 3m Bangor win in March. Picked up where she left off when runner-up for the fourth time in 5 starts on reappearance at Ffos Las (23.8f, soft) last month and should be in the mix again.

Won twice in 2023/34 season but looks to have had his problems since, pulled up on second of only two outings last season. Sean Bowen booked but remains with something to prove following a further 8-month absence

Has been largely consistent over fences for current yard and posted another solid effort on return at Wetherby, finishing third on first start over 3m (flattered by proximity to front pair). Isn't fully exposed over this trip and should give another good account.

Beat Taponthego (now smart) when off the mark at fourth attempt in Irish points. Showed promise in maiden hurdles but failed to meet expectations on handicap/chase debut at Lingfield (22.1f) last month, finishing effort not for the first time lacking. Back up to 3m and could be worth another chance.

Runner-up over hurdles at Bangor on reappearance (form worked out well) and likely found the race coming too soon at Exeter last time. Built for chasing (well backed when jumping ponderously on latest chase start) and isn't discounted back over fences.

Useful-looking £100,000 purchase from Irish points. Unable to justify support on handicap bow/final start for previous yard and shaped better than the result when pulled up on stable/chase debut last time. Had wind surgery since (wears tongue tie) and he's clearly thought capable of better.

Runner-up in similar events on first 2 starts last season, however campaign ended with a series of non-completions (now pulled up 6 of last 9 starts). Clearly isn't one for maximum faith but worth a market check given his record when fresh.

On the up for Olly Murphy this season, following up his 26f Sedgefield win with a career best at Market Rasen (21.4f) last month. Upped in grade (in change of headgear) on first start for new yard but may need to pull out more to land the hat-trick.

Successful twice in soft/heavy last winter but his poor reappearance display at Newton Abbot will need forgiving and he's yet to prove he stays this far.

Every chance when falling at last on final point start. Found 2m too sharp in a trio of maiden/novice hurdles in the spring and fared no better in 2½m handicaps. Worth a look in the betting now sent chasing over 3m.

Forecasts

Pescatorius (2/1), Jupiter Des Bordes (5/1), Lazy Sunday (11/2), Jack Sprat (7/1), Star Of Diamonds (8/1), Malfoy Manor (10/1), Haut Folin (12/1), John W Creasy (16/1), House Of Habsburg (20/1), Everything'sontick (20/1)

Verdict

An interesting handicap chase. Irish point runner-up MALFOY MANOR shaped better than the bare result when well backed on chase/stable debut and looks worth another chance following a breathing operation, while Jupiter Des Bordes and Lazy Sunday head the list of the more-established chasers. Of the rest, it's probably too soon to write off Star of Diamonds given his point form, while Haut Folin isn't one for maximum faith but merits a market check given his record fresh.
