A little short of the very best but he is high class, including fourth to Inothewayurthinkin in last season's Cheltenham Gold Cup. Tackles his first handicap on reappearance. Bobs Worth in 2012 was the last horse to defy a higher mark in this race.

Smart chaser who won the 2024 Irish Grand National. Better than ever when second in Grade 3 Bobbyjo back at Fairyhouse last winter but below par when well-held third in Clonmel Grade 2 on reappearance. Others are preferred.

Improved performer this season, building on his second to Spanish Harlem in the Kerry National with a win at Cheltenham (25f, good) last month. Another 6 lb rise demands more but no surprise were he to find it.

Belatedly came good over fences in a Punchestown novice in June and smart and improved performance when following up in the Kerry National at Listowel 3 months later. Another big career best will be needed to follow up here.

Ended last season with a fine second in 2½m handicap at the Punchestown Festival and returned to go one better in a 23f Wexford listed chase 6 months later. His mark demands a high-class performance but he's unexposed at 3m+.

Ended last season with a win in bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown and backed that up with a reappearance success in 2½m Carlisle listed chase 4 weeks ago. The return to a longer trip now is in his favour, as is the long home straight here. The cheekpieces he wore at Sandown are refitted.

Largely progressive chaser who enhanced his excellent Ascot record when winning a couple of premier handicaps there last winter. Respectable 13¼ lengths seventh of 19 to Resplendent Grey in bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown on final start. Third in this race on last year's reappearance.

Grade 2 novice win at Ascot in between excellent runner-up efforts in Great Yorkshire at Doncaster (to Annual Invictus) and Ultima at Cheltenham (beaten 11 lengths by Myretown). Good second on 3m Ascot reappearance and the new cheekpieces (added to tongue tie) won't need to give him much extra.

Coped extremely well with the demands of a big-field handicap when bounding 11 lengths clear of The Changing Man in Ultima at last season's Cheltenham Festival (25f, good to soft). 15 lb higher here but there could be plenty more to come after only 5 starts over fences.

Rising 10 yet still improving, winning both chase starts since joining Dan Skelton, latterly the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham (2½m, soft) on reappearance a fortnight ago. Whether she'll prove as effective over this far remains to be seen but well treated under a 4 lb penalty.

Much improved since sent chasing, winning first 3 times last season, including a valuable handicap at Kempton (3m, soft) in February. Excuses for his defeat in the Ultima at Cheltenham on final start and should be sharper for a spin over hurdles at Aintree 3 weeks ago. Yard continues in good form.

Useful chaser who shaped as if retaining all his ability on his 19.5f Stratford reappearance in October, leading for long way but headed and weakening when fell last. Stamina isn't assured (below form in Ultima on previous attempt around 3m).

Useful form over fences, finally getting off the mark in 4-runner Huntingdon maiden (23.5f, good) in cheekpieces 27 days ago. This much more competitive scenario is likely to place a lot more pressure on his sometimes suspect jumping.

Verdict

THE CHANGING MAN can cap an excellent November for the Joe Tizzard yard by bagging this valuable prize. This 8-y-o has several good runner-up efforts in top handicaps and won't need to pull out much more for first-time cheekpieces. Resplendent Grey, Myretown, The Doyen Chief and Panic Attack head the many dangers in a typically strong renewal.
