Bounced back to form returned to hurdles, finishing third behind a pair of subsequent winners at Kelso (16.2f) last month. Down in grade off 1 lb below his last winning hurdle mark and has leading claims if seeing out the longer trip (stays 2¼m on Flat).

Course winner landed a quickfire double at Cartmel in May but hit and miss since, in the process of running below form when falling at Perth in September. Remains to be seen if he's back on a song following a short break.

Dual winner of juvenile hurdles at this track in 2023/24 season. Below form over hurdles last season and arrives on the back of largely subdued campaign on the Flat. Bit to prove.

Front runner who landed a maiden hurdle at this course in April 2024. Largely out of form since but wasn't disgraced when sixth in a 15-runner 0-105 handicap at Cartmel last time. Place claims if he can build on that.

Failed to land a notable gamble on final start for Nigel Hawke when respectable fourth at Chepstow and was again unable to justify market confidence when finishing midfield at Carlisle on reappearance/stable debut last month. Worth another chance in first-time headgear.

Capitalised on a career-low mark to win 3m handicap at Perth in June and stepped forward plenty from his seasonal reappearance when runner-up at Kelso (20.9f) earlier this month. No surprise to see him the in the mix off 1 lb higher with headgear/tongue tie retained.

Lightly raced Flat-bred ran much better on second start in a handicap (following 8 months off) when a staying-on third at Perth last time, making up plenty of ground having been caught further back than ideal. Second won since and he's open to progress if seeing out the longer trip.

Modest maiden hurdler who offered little on return at Kelso earlier this month. Will need to take a significant step forward stepping back up in distance.

Improved for switch to front-running tactics when off the mark at Kelso during the spring. Followed that with a couple of solid efforts in defeat, most recently when third behind a less-exposed pair at Perth in June. Back over a longer trip and not ruled out if returning in similar form.

On a long losing run but did stop the slide when fourth at Kelso (20.0f) last month before going off too hard in a better race last time. 5 lb out of the handicap but could outrun long odds back in more realistic company.

Forecasts

Snow Dragon (5/2), Speiriuil (3/1), Speed Davis (7/2), Two Auld Pals (5/1), Maillot Blanc (8/1), Evenwood Sonofagun (18/1), Cage Rattler (33/1), Rory The Cat (33/1), Away She Goes (33/1), Darkest Day (66/1), Jakana (80/1)

Verdict

TWO AULD PALS most recent Kelso third is working out well and now stepped up in trip (stays 2¼m on Flat), he may be able to capitalise on a drop in grade. Speiriuil was again well-backed at Carlisle last time and looks worth another chance sporting headgear on second start for her new yard, while there could be better to come from lightly raced Snow Dragon if seeing out the longer distance.
