Three-time hurdles winner (at up to 3m) last season and decent start over fences when third at Hexham on return. Turned over when odds-on for a 3-runner Newcastle maiden chase next time, but a bad mistake 4 out (jumped well otherwise) proved very costly that day and he remains with potential.

Made all in 17f Carlisle novice (soft) on reappearance last term and stepped up on this season's pipe-opener when going close upped to 3m at Perth (heavy). Very much of interest now switched to fences with first-time cheekpieces enlisted. Yard also represented by Golden Point.

Four-time winner of handicap hurdles at up to 21f during 2023/24 campaign (3 of those wins gained here) and creditable third at Ayr on sole completed start last term. The ability is there, but his jumping has often let him down over hurdles, which is a worry now that he tackles the larger obstacles.

Successful sole start between the flags and, having achieved a fair level of form over hurdles, he was runner-up in a small-field handicap chase at Perth (2½m, good to soft) on second run over fences in September. Needs to raise his game, but stepping back up in trip may help and he's not dismissed.

Runner-up in a Hexham bumper for Toby Lawes in April 2024 and made the frame all 4 starts in maiden hurdles at up to around 3m last season. Passed over by Bruce Lynn in favour of stablemate Eloi Du Puy, but he's on a plausible mark for this chase/handicap debut and is one to consider.

Made it third time lucky over hurdles at Ayr in January and ran well both subsequent outings, fifth of 8 in listed mares' novice at Doncaster (24.4f, good) in March. Offered something to work on sent chasing over C&D last month and she's entitled to come on for that.

Left previous efforts behind to defy unflattering odds in a 12-runner handicap hurdle at Hexham (2½m, good) in April, benefiting from a sharper jumping display in first-time cheekpieces. No headgear when well held on return at Perth and cheekpieces swiftly refitted now switched to fences.

Hurdles winner at Ayr last October and made the frame on each of his next 3 starts. Kept on steadily when third on recent return/chase debut back at Ayr (3m, soft), but will need to improve on that if he's to play a leading role in this contest.

Fair ex-French maiden hurdler, but was largely below that level for current yard last season. However, she shaped well when fourth of 8 back from a break on chase debut over this C&D last month and she merits respect for a yard that is triple-handed in this contest.

Forecasts

Frisby (10/3), Golden Point (11/2), I Wish You (11/2), Chasingouttheblues (6/1), Adveram (6/1), Meetmeinthemorning (6/1), My Lady Elektra (13/2), Orkney Blue (8/1), Eloi Du Puy (18/1), Blakey Boy (22/1)

Verdict

Granted a clean round of jumping CHASINGOUTTHEBLUES may well build on the promise of his chase debut third at Hexham and emerge on top. It was all seemingly going swimmingly for Mark Walford's charge at Newcastle subsequently before a significant blunder at the fourth-last put him firmly on the back foot, but his jumping was otherwise sure-footed and he remains open to improvement as a chaser. I Wish You is of strong interest on his chase debut and he is feared most ahead of My Lady Elektra.
