Fairly useful handicapper. 4 wins from 15 runs this year. Followed a below-par effort with an even worse one when eighth of 9 in handicap at Musselburgh (7.1f, soft, 12/1) 12 days ago. Remains to be seen if she can bounce back returned to 1m.

Landed an all-weather hat-trick in 2023/24 season and better than ever when second at Ascot in July. Faced a stiff task and was poorly placed when last in a listed race at Saint-Cloud (9.9f, good) 45 days ago. Makes appeal back in a handicap.

Followed up Wolverhampton success when winning easily by 4 lengths over C&D. Unpenalised but did too much too soon when fifth of 13 in handicap (4/1) at Southwell (8.1f) 45 days ago. Should remain competitive despite racing off 9 lb higher here.

Group placed as juvenile. Dropped 10 lb for two starts in handicaps, latest when beaten by more than the longer trip when tenth of 12 in handicap at Catterick (12.1f, good to soft, 25/1) 30 days ago. Significantly back down in trip for all-weather debut and mark looks more realistic now.

Southwell debut winner but hasn't really progressed in all-weather handicaps, merely passing beaten horses when eighth in a 13-runner handicap on return to Southwell in July. Still early days for one from top yard but she'll need to improve following a break.

Sole win came on all-weather in Ireland for Ger Lyons. Unable to match the pick of her form from this season when fourth of 5 in handicap at Lingfield (8f, AW) 13 days ago, despite having run of race. Best of her all-weather form gives her a chance.

Much improved when quickening clear to land a C&D handicap last month and travelled better than most just 7 days on when fifth of 8 in handicap at this C&D (5/1) 27 days ago. Further progress not ruled out on just the sixth start of her career.

Winner on debut at Yarmouth in July. Finished creditable fifth of 11 in handicap at Goodwood (9.9f, good to firm, 12/1) 36 days ago, travelled well. Could make more impact back down in trip with tongue strap on first time.

Looked progressive when landing a double on the Newmarket July Course in August but has paid the price for being too headstrong in better races, latest sixth of 8 in handicap (13/2) at Southwell (8.1f) 32 days ago. On a fair mark if she can learn to race more efficiently.

Forecasts

Stateira (5/2), La Scanderbeide (3/1), Queen Of Atlantis (6/1), Selection (17/2), Elsie's Ruan (10/1), Bernalda (10/1), Donna Nook (12/1), Wonderbolt (12/1), Bellarchi (16/1)

Verdict

SELECTION was much improved when winning over C&D last month and travelled well through the race when conceding weight all around under a penalty here 7 days later. There could be more to come on just her sixth career start and she's narrowly preferred to class-dropping Queen of Atlantis, who has to be feared if this is run to suit. La Scanderbeide and Bernalda complete the shortlist.
