3-time C&D winner. Again looked out of sorts when 33/1, last of 11 in handicap at Southwell (7.1f) 18 days ago. Best to look elsewhere.

Placed in listed company as a juvenile and caught the eye when fourth at Haydock in September, finishing with running left. Confirmed himself to still be in excellent heart when third at Newbury (7f, heavy) 24 days ago and he's still one to be interested in back over 6f on all-weather debut.

2-y-o form looks rock-solid, getting off the mark in an Ayr maiden (6f) prior to improving when runner-up in a valuable 14-runner juvenile final at York (7f) last October. Drops back to 6f on return from 13 months off (has been gelded in the interim) and his opening mark could prove lenient.

Finished first and second in two starts at this course. Out of sorts on turf this season, for all he has had some plausible excuses and he wouldn't be one to dismiss totally off a falling mark on return to this track.

C&D winner ran creditably on the all-weather last winter but didn't land a blow following 8 weeks off when eighth of 13 in handicap at Southwell (6.1f, 11/1) 17 days ago. Now below last winning mark and ought to be much more competitive.

Progressed again to land a hat-trick at Haydock (solid form) in May. Shaped well to finish third on reappearance at Newbury (6f, heavy), travelling well into contention before absence/ground told. In excellent hands and likely more to come from this lightly raced 3-y-o.

Two-time winner over 6f on turf this year and ran well following 4 months off when second of 8 in handicap at Kempton (6f) 19 days ago. Should step forward from that run and he's still relatively unexposed on the all-weather.

Fared better than previously for current yard when fourth of 10 in handicap at Pontefract (6f, soft) 42 days ago, an 11-week absence perhaps telling late on. Has a good record on the all-weather and has claims if backing up latest effort.

Made fine start for current yard, shaped as though still in form when fifth at Musselburgh (5f) but found run of form coming to an end on testing ground at Pontefract (5f, heavy) 28 days ago. Better than he showed there but this is a stronger race than he need contest.

5-time course winner was well-backed to land a 7-runner handicap at this course (5f) from a reduced mark 16 days ago, well on top finish. Still feasibly treated on best form and should hold his own in a better race with hood refitted.

Confirmed mudlark finished his time with Kevin Ryan in excellent heart, edged out on the post when second of 10 in handicap (11/2) at Pontefract (6f, soft) 42 days ago. In a change of headgear for stable debut (bought for £23,000) and is well treated if taking to the all-weather.

Seven-time winner, latest on reappearance over C&D in April. Still finding his feet having missed most of the summer, not given a hard time when eighth of 11 in handicap at Southwell (7.1f, 50/1) 18 days ago. No surprise to see him closer to form back over 6f.

200/1 winner over 7f on Finals Day at this course in April. Not in the same form previous two starts, again not seeing out her race well when sixth of 12 in handicap at this course (7.1f) 21 days ago. Needs to improve reverted to sprinting.

Verdict

A very competitive handicap in which lightly raced 3-y-o MAELSTROM appeals most having shaped well following 4 months off when third at Newbury last month. He's in very good hands and can resume winning ways at the expense of Uncle Don who very much caught the eye when fourth over this trip at Haydock in September, while turf mudlark Irish Nectar and unexposed Stratusnine both look potentially well-treated tackling the all-weather for the first time.
