Angela Nettlefold Memorial 'National Hunt' Maiden Hurdle (GBB Race) (Div 2)

Off time: 14:38 | Winning time: 4m 14.40s

Elusive Knight¹⁰

Age: 5| Weight: 11-4| J: Conor Ring| T: Evan Williams

300/1

Won his sole start between the flags and shaped encouragingly on yard/hurdling debut when fifth in 2m novice at Ffos Las in October. Failed to build on it at Fontwell 10 days ago though and little appeal here.

Form: 1-58

Forward Thinking²⁶⁰

Age: 5| Weight: 11-4| J: S Bowen| T: O Murphy| BF

22/1

Has shown promise both runs in bumpers, still looking in need of the experience when (evens) third of 7 at Market Rasen (16.6f, soft) 8 months ago. Not without interest now going hurdling.

Form: 43-

Grand Conqueror²⁶

Age: 4| Weight: 11-4| J: R P McLernon| T: N P Mulholland

300/1

Placed in a point but only ninth of 14 in novice hurdle here (16f, good to firm) on NH debut 26 days ago. Should do better in due course.

Form: 3-F9

Grand Garcon²³⁴

Age: 5| Weight: 11-4| J: Harry Cobden| T: P F Nicholls

22/1

7/1, promising second of 8 in bumper here (16f, good) on his debut 7 months ago. This son of Kapgarde must enter calculations on his hurdles debut.

Form: 2-

Jet Joe

Age: 4| Weight: 11-4| J: Shane Quinlan⁽³⁾| T: Katy Price

300/1

Jet Away gelding. Dam poor hurdler (3m winner, stayed 3¼m). The market can guide.

Form:

Kadastral²²⁸

Age: 5| Weight: 11-4| J: Harry Skelton| T: D Skelton| D

16/5

£82,000 Cokoriko gelding who built on debut promise when emphatically landing a valuable bumper at Newbury (form been franked) in March. Has plenty about him physically and rates an exciting hurdling prospect.

Form: 21-

Matty's Getaway²⁶

Age: 6| Weight: 11-4| J: Thomas Bellamy| T: K Bailey & M Nicholls

5/1

Winning Irish pointer who made a promising start in this sphere when third of 15 in novice hurdle here (16f, good to firm) 26 days ago, running on having been badly hampered 3 out. This Getaway gelding holds very good form claims.

Form: PF1-3

Rap Soul¹³

Age: 6| Weight: 11-4| J: Harry Bannister| T: R Bandey

300/1

Runner-up in an Irish point but had a breathing operation after and has shown little since in a bumper at Ffos Las in the spring and novice hurdle at Fontwell (19.1f, good to soft) 13 days ago.

Form: 27-5

Sober Glory²⁷⁰

Age: 5| Weight: 11-4| J: Ben Jones| T: P Hobbs & J White| CD

1/2

Won his sole start in Irish points in May and showed useful form in going 3-3 in bumpers, completing his hat-trick in listed event at Newbury in February. Goes hurdling now with lots of potential.

Form: 1111-

Tell The Tale²²⁸

Age: 5| Weight: 11-4| J: C O'Farrell| T: N P Mulholland

300/1

Dead-heated in an Irish point but pulled up in novice hurdle (22/1) at Kelso (20.9f, soft) on his NH debut 7 months ago. Lots more is required.

Form: 4/21P-

Tennessee Tango^t1²⁵¹

Age: 5| Weight: 11-4| J: Brendan Powell| T: J Tizzard| BF

9/1

Debut Wincanton bumper winner last October and posted a very good second in similar company at Taunton 8 months ago. Tongue tied for his hurdles bow and can't be ruled out.

Form: 182-

Troop Ship¹⁹⁵

Age: 7| Weight: 11-4| J: Charlie Deutsch| T: Mrs M Rowley

300/1

Soldier of Fortune gelding who jumped none too fluently but still built on his debut when fourth of 9 in novice hurdle at Bangor (19.6f, soft) 6 months ago. Can do better again this season.

Form: 54-

Wannabe²⁶⁵

Age: 5| Weight: 11-4| J: Stan Sheppard| T: T Lacey

250/1

Fetched €72,000 as a 3-y-o and he's closely related to bumper winner/fairly useful hurdler Del La Mar Rocket but was very green when last of 6 in novice hurdle at Sandown (16f, soft, 17/2) on NH debut 8 months ago. Sort to improve in the longer term.

Form: 6-

Forecasts

Sober Glory (1/2), Kadastral (16/5), Matty's Getaway (5/1), Tennessee Tango (9/1), Grand Garcon (22/1), Forward Thinking (22/1), Wannabe (250/1), Rap Soul (300/1), Tell The Tale (300/1), Jet Joe (300/1), Grand Conqueror (300/1), Troop Ship (300/1), Elusive Knight (300/1)

Lots of these bring potential, not least Dan Skelton's KADASTRAL who looked a really good hurdling prospect when a stylish winner of a valuable Newbury bumper (form worked out very well) in the spring. He can edge out Sober Glory, who created an excellent impression in going unbeaten in a trio of bumpers last term, and promising debut third Matty's Getaway. Other hurdling debutants Grand Garcon, Forward Thinking and Tennessee Tango also command plenty of respect in a fascinating contest.
