Veteran capitalised on a falling mark when winning over C&D (heavy) in March, finding plenty to get the better of an in-form rival. He'll relish any rainfall and a 3 lb rise doesn't look insurmountable if returning in similar form.

Useful performer on Flat for Owen Burrows (sold for 78,000 gns). Chased home a subsequent improver on hurdling debut before scoring cosily at Wetherby. but blotted his copybook by refusing to race at Musselburgh last time. Leading contender on form but comes with risks attached on handicap debut.

Plenty of creditable placed efforts last season, finishing ahead of a couple of next time out winners at Perth. Found improvement to get off the mark with a comfortable success at Uttoxeter (15.8f, good) in May and he's a player if ready to roll on reappearance.

Bumper winner got off the mark over hurdles at Wetherby (19.7f, soft) on Boxing Day but denied herself the chance to follow up that victory when blundering at Carlisle next time. Well held on handicap debut at this track (21.4f) in March and may need further respite from the handicapper.

Generally consistent type who ran a cracker (off this mark) to finish a head second in this race last year and bagged his first chase success at this track in February. No surprise to see him run well again with headgear removed on return.

Sole hurdle success came in a 2m maiden hurdle at Wetherby (heavy) and didn't enhance his form in handicaps or over fences for Olly Murphy. First start for new connections and the handicapper has given him a chance to be competitive on hurdles return.

Irish point recruit who landed a 2m course novice hurdle on Rules debut in December 2023 but fell on two subsequent hurdle starts. Didn't improve for fences, pulling up on first start following wind surgery at Kelso last time. Something to prove back over hurdles.

Veteran was picked up cheaply by current connections and was backed at long odds when successful at Perth in September. Shaped as if still in good form when third at Kelso and Perth subsequently and should remain competitive down in trip.

Fair maiden hurdle winner in Ireland and shaped well on final start for J. P. Dempsey when fourth at Bellewstown (20.5f) in July. Shaped as if needing the run in very testing conditions at Hexham (20.1f) last month but remains to be seen if she's closer to form back over 2m with tongue tie refitted.

Ex-Irish maiden hurdler posted a better effort when second at Kelso (18.1f) in September but failed to complete on chase debut 3 weeks ago. Cheekpieces refitted for hurdles return and while inconsistent, he has place claims if on a going day.

Modest on Flat (stays 1½m, latest win in August) and was probably unsuited by heavy going when well beaten in a Flat handicap on stable debut here last month. Races from 9 lb out of the weights on first start in a handicap hurdle and will need to settle much better than previously.

Forecasts

Hosaamm (9/2), Fostered Phil (9/2), Ravenscraig Castle (5/1), Just Call Me Lucy (11/2), Thereisnodoubt (11/2), Ozzy Cosmo (6/1), Maple (13/2), Balally Park (17/2), Dance Thief (11/1), Sao Carlos (25/1), Dee's Getaway (33/1), Velvet Vulcan (50/1)

Verdict

A strong form case can be made for handicap debutant HOSAAMM but he remains a risky betting proposition having refused to race last time. Dance Thief ran a cracker to finish a close second in this race last year and should go well again off the same mark, while Maple improved to open his account on final start last season and could feature if ready to roll on reappearance. Veteran C&D winner Thereisnodoubt would be feared if the ground becomes testing.
