Won 9-runner novice at Kempton (7f, 5/4) 14 days ago, which was his first start since being gelded. Pulled clear of the rest with the highly-touted runner-up there and while this is more demanding, he has to enter calculations.

Won 10-runner novice at Kempton (7f, 4/9) 30 days ago, staying on well to score in decisive fashion. This is a tougher assignment, but he boasts a good pedigree, is in good hands and almost certainly has more to offer.

Fairly useful gelding. Winner at Brighton in May. 11/1, 7¼ lengths fifth of 7 to Bow Echo in listed race at Haydock (8.2f, good to firm) 13 days ago. Strong claims based on his effort in the Coventry at Royal Ascot, but there's nevertheless an air of vulnerability about him.

Third of 11 in novice (11/2) at Kempton (8f) on debut 23 days ago, not knocked about. Sizeable step forward needed here, but improvement is almost certainly on the way and he represents the yard that has saddled 2 of the last 3 winners of this race.

Roger Varian saddled a few 2-y-o winners at the recent Doncaster St Leger meeting and KOKBASTAU is an intriguing candidate for the yard. He fetched 300,000 gns as a foal and it looks significant that he's starting off in this traditionally informative race rather than the calmer waters of a maiden. Cases can be made for all six of his rivals, with Goodwood Galaxy feared most on the assumption that he'll put his inauspicious York run behind him here. Look To The Stars is third choice.
