Comes here very much on the up and followed success in International at Ascot (7f) with success under a 6 lb penalty in 27-runner Stewards' Cup at Goodwood by 2¼ lengths from Strike Red. Hiked up 8 lb but 4th in this 12 months ago and a likely player.

Low-mileage colt who quickly reached a useful level last year, winning 2 of his 5 starts. Has shaped well after 10 months off both runs this summer, latterly when an unlucky-in-running fifth of 19 over C&D four weeks ago. Capable of better. Interesting.

Yet to open his account this season but he's been shaping well and came home 2¼ lengths second of 27 to Two Tribes in Stewards' Cup at Goodwood last time. This C&D winner (also runner-up in this in 2024) is one to keep on the right side.

Pocklington (4/1), Two Tribes (4/1), Jubilee Walk (6/1), Badri (11/1), Northern Ticker (12/1), Chief Mankato (14/1), Run Boy Run (14/1), Milford (14/1), Commanche Falls (16/1), Strike Red (16/1), Completely Random (16/1), Twilight Calls (18/1), Super Saiyan (18/1), Jordan Electrics (20/1), Tropical Storm (28/1), Dark Thirty (33/1), Nimitz (40/1), Zayer (50/1), Saint Lawrence (66/1), We Never Stop (66/1)

Verdict

This is wide open but POCKLINGTON has long promised to win a race of this nature and can gain his biggest prize yet having caught the eye when a close fifth in a big field over C&D last time. Plenty from the Stewards' Cup line up here and 1-2 Two Tribes and Strike Red could emerge as the main dangers to Geoff Oldroyd's low-mileage 4-y-o. Others who need factoring in include Jubilee Walk, Commanche Falls, Twilight Calls and Jordan Electrics in this cracking sprint.
