Built on opening runners-up efforts in the spring when adding to his tally over C&D in May. Below that level upped in class next 2 starts but better display with sights lowered when fourth of 8 in handicap at Chester (5.1f, good to firm) 15 days ago. Not out of things.

Much improved with a first-time tongue strap added when making all at Bath (5f) in April. Excuses at Chester next time and quickly back to form again going from the front when second of 5 in handicap at Goodwood (5f) 51 days ago. Likely he'll face competition up front here, though.

6-y-o mare who is enjoying a very productive campaign, gaining her fourth victory since May when readily taking 4-runner handicap at Hamilton (5f, good to firm) 8 days ago. Evidently thriving but certainly has more on her plate faced with this big-field scenario from 7 lb higher mark.

Bagged 5f handicaps at Pontefract and Ripon in the spring and ran a stormer when runner-up in big-field Ascot handicap on penultimate start last month. Missed break and never figured at Glorious Goodwood last week and no great surprise to see him bounce back. Down in class.

Has landed back-to-back wins in this series at Newmarket and Chelmsford (both 5f) in recent months. Hit with a 3 lb rise for the latest of them and whilst this appeals as a stronger race he should go well in his bid to land the £100,000 bonus for 3 wins in this series.

Dual 5f novice winner last summer who performed well when runner-up in first 2 starts in handicaps thereafter. Not at best on final start on AW last August and proved too free when down the field on return at Yarmouth (5.2f) 17 days ago. This promises to reveal more with a hood reached for.

Redoubtable veteran who landed back-to-back handicaps at Pontefract/Chester in June and performed equally as well in defeat since, again filling the frame when fourth of 19 in handicap (4/1) at York (5f, good to firm) 15 days ago. Looks sure to give another good account.

C&D winner who tasted success twice from higher marks in 2024 but not firing on all cylinders in recent months, finishing fifth of 7 in handicap at this C&D (good) 50 days ago. Others rate much stronger on that evidence.

Tricky customer who has been going through a good spell, bagging a third success of the campaign at Hamilton (5f) in July. Class 2 company proved beyond him when last of 4 behind Grandlad back at that venue 8 days ago but not without each-way hope if putting it all together here.

Dual C&D winner, latterly from 4 lb lower mark on penultimate start and she again ran well despite being pestered up front when third of 7 in handicap at Chester (5.1f, good to firm) 15 days ago, weakening last ½f. Each-way claims for all she's yet to defy a mark this high.

Winless since defying a 1 lb higher mark from the front at Chester last spring but he comes here having run a cracker when finishing a head second back at that venue 15 days ago, coming out best of the trio that forced a brisk early gallop. Strong traveller who can go well again.

Sole success in handicaps came from 6 lb higher at Chester (5f) last summer but essentially been in a lull this time around, fifth of 8 in handicap back at that venue 15 days ago. Others preferred with the headgear now discarded.

Front runner who comes here on a losing run and he failed to take advantage of the ease in class when third of 8 in handicap at Newmarket (5f, good) 8 days ago. Visor goes back on now but he's likely to face plenty of pace pressure on the front end back in this stronger affair.

Verdict

A fiendishly competitive handicap in which it could pay to side with Paul Midgley's SPRING IS SPRUNG. He's been given a break since landing back-to-back wins in this series earlier in the summer and a 3 lb rise for the latest of them shouldn't prevent a bold bid to bag the £100,000 bonus. Duran promises to be suited by the way this race is likely to be run and he's feared. Mick & David Easterby trained-duo Acrisius and Knicks are others making appeal, along with Curious Rover.
