Won a female amateur jockeys' handicap under this rider here (heavy) in 2023. Has ran right up to that form this year, winning at Taunton in February (soft) but unsuited by a steady gallop at Newton Abbot (good) last month. Could be interesting faced with more testing conditions/stronger gallop.

Better than ever this season following a quickfire double at Hexham/Uttoxeter (fourth course win) and has only enhanced her reputation in defeat subsequently, again nearly burning off her rivals from the front over C&D 20 days ago. Should go well again.

Won this race in 2024 (off 2 lb lower) but hasn't been firing in either code in recent months, well held over hurdles when unsuited by the drop in trip at Uttoxeter (15.8f) prior to being ridden too aggressively back on the Flat earlier this month. Only of interest if market hints at a revival.

Winner of only 1 of 9 starts in handicaps (victory came for previous connections) and was unable to justify support on third start for Lizzie Quinlan when fourth in a 22f handicap here in August, went in snatches. Drops in trip on return from a break (gelded in the interim) but needs to improve.

Fair 1½m Flat winner for William Haggas and has improved with each start in novice company at this track, responding well to pressure to win over C&D (soft) last month, for all she was aided by the weak finish of the favourite. Low mileage and could step forward again now handicapping.

Promising effort in first-time hood when third behind Fiveonefive here last year. Plenty to like about his reappearance third at Hexham and proved better than ever when an unfortunate second to Saligo Bay over C&D (heavy) last month (rider mistook position of winning post). One to be interested in.

Off the mark in a 12-runner selling handicap at Cartmel (form franked) and followed up easily on debut for current connections at Hexham (16.2f) prior to a career-best effort in defeat (upped in grade) when second at Perth earlier this month. In fine heart but may need to improve again to win this.

4-time C&D winner blew out on return from 9 months off (had won the previous two renewals of the race) when well beaten in the C&D handicap won by Saligo Bay last month. Fine course record overall but has something to prove on the back of most recent efforts.

Fair maiden on Flat for Joseph O'Brien and ran her best race over hurdles on handicap debut with cheekpieces fitted on final run for yard. Rusty on first start for Ben Haslam when last in a 6-runner C&D handicap in May. Needs to leave that well behind but worth a market check with headgear back on.

In fine heart on the Flat prior to capitalising on a much-reduced mark back over hurdles, landing a C&D handicap by a neck from Book of Secrets, for all he had luck on his side (rider of runner-up mistook winning post). That looks strong form for the grade and he has solid claims once again.

Duly built on promise shown earlier in the year when showing much improved form to decisively win a 7-runner handicap hurdle at Ffos Las (15.8f, good to soft) 44 days ago, overcoming a pace bias in the process. Travelled well that day and should cope with this sharper track. One to consider.

Forecasts

Saligo Bay (10/3), Miss Maverick (7/2), Book of Secrets (5/1), Winds Of Winter (15/2), Bittalemon (8/1), Bobby's Fortune (17/2), Luttrell Lad (9/1), Zucayan (12/1), Ashington (18/1), Calevade (25/1), Elogio (33/1), Expelliarmus (80/1)

Verdict

SALIGO BAY defeated Book of Secrets in a close and controversial finish over C&D last month and from the same terms he is taken to confirm that form in an open-looking handicap. Miss Maverick could prove the main threat to both, the sharp nature of this track so well-suited to her front-running style. Of the rest, Luttrell Lad is 1 lb lower than when landing a similar race in heavy ground here in 2023 and would be of interest if the worst of the forecast rain arrives.
