Long time without a victory but placed on 2 of 3 his 3 starts in Bahrain earlier this year. Posted very wide throughout and never figured back on these shores when eleventh of 14 in handicap at Kempton (11f) when last seen in March but his mark has eased a little more ahead of this.

C&D winner who enjoyed a progressive 3-y-o campaign, winning strong race on final outing at Goodwood. However, essentially disappointed in trio of starts so far this season and he needs to get back on track with a tongue strap now fitted.

Useful performer at best in France. Not at that level in recent seasons but did end a losing a losing run in 10-runner claimer at Argentan (9.4f, good to soft) 26 days ago, comfortably. Since switched yards and it will be interesting to see where he figures in the betting.

C&D novice winner at 3 yrs who has had excuses on 2 of his 4 starts so far this season and possible he found his stamina stretched when respectable sixth of 13 in handicap at Kempton (12f) 33 days ago. Cheekpieces on 1st time and one to consider back down in trip.

Fair form both starts in France last year and took a step forward when winning C&D novice on return. Handed a stiff-looking mark and found things too tough when down the field in the Britannia Handicap at Royal Ascot 11 days ago but return to calmer waters can see him in a better light here.

Took a step forward tackling 1¼m for the first time when landing a warm York handicap (firm) 4 weeks ago, staying on to lead final 50 yds. A 2 lb weight rise looks fair and he's very much of interest again with further progress distinctly possible.

Left maiden/novice form behind when making a mockery of his opening mark on C&D handicap debut on penultimate start. Found Group 3 company far too hot at Royal Ascot (10f) since and return to handicaps an obvious plus for all he's been hit with a hefty rise.

Forecasts

Dante's Lad (6/5), Approval (3/1), Calumet (4/1), Stardrop (11/1), Brise Noir (14/1), Killybegs Warrior (16/1), Alcaraz (25/1)

Verdict

DANTE'S LAD produced an improved effort stepped up in trip when doubling his tally ay York (10.2f) 4 weeks ago, doing well to run down some better fancied rivals having been forced to manoeuvre around horses. A 2 lb rise for that looks fair and he holds sound claims again with definite potential for better still at 1¼m. Calumet down in trip/partnered by Oisin Murphy and Approval can emerge as the lead threats.
