Veteran who won this race off 3 lb higher a year ago. Ended campaign in slightly disappointing fashion, albeit set a couple of stiff tasks but has had a similar prep for this with a runner-up effort at Perth 3 weeks ago, Keeps a lot of these out of the weights.

Winning Irish pointer who scored twice over hurdles during 2023/24 campaign. Already a much better chaser, supplementing her Perth win in bloodless fashion over 3m at this venue in May. Up 10 lb but no surprise were that in range.

Added to an excellent spring record when winning at Newton Abbot last month, value extra too as he pulled clear in the closing stages. Clouted a fence at just the wrong time here last month so needs treating as though still in top form. Danger to all if stamina lasts out.

Landed the same Cheltenham handicap for the second time in April, taking time to warm to task but keeping on well. Kept fresh since and 4 lb rise shouldn't prevent another bold bid with blinkers on for the first time.

Lightly raced in recent times and is a hard one to warm to, struggling from 3 out at Ballinrobe a month ago.

Big-field handicap chase winner at Cheltenham in April 224 and win a novice hurdles on next start 6 months later. Given his running all subsequent starts over fences and he can make his presence felt.

A fairly useful hurdles/chase winner during the autumn and perhaps best to excuse his run in the Edinburgh National in February, soon done with. Given a break and likely to bounce back with this his ideal sort of trip.

Resumed winning ways on the back of breathing surgery at Fakenham last month and looked better than ever when following up at Stratford. Failed to complete the hat-trick at Perth from revised mark but that effort shows he's still in excellent order.

Isn't straightforward but that hasn't stopped him winning a handicap chase at Bangor and a handicap hurdle at Ballinrobe this spring. This revised mark asks a different question of him in what is a deeper race.

Had a disappointing 2023/24 for David Pipe but showed promise for his new yard in handicap chase at Ludlow (25.6f, soft) in December, slithering 4 out when close up and pulled up before next. Badly outpaced but was motoring home when third at Aintree last month. Needs to back that up.

Bumper/hurdles winner who improved significantly with cheekpieces fitted over fences last summer, landing back-to-back 23f Worcester handicaps. Runner-up both starts since returning from a break in April but never looked like getting involved back over timber latest. 3 lb out of the weights.

Dual winner around 2m4f last summer but mixed record since, struggling when unseating rider at Cartmel. Others more persuasive from out of the weights in change of headgear.

Fairly useful chaser who looked better than ever when scoring at Southwell early this month. However, new mark and fact he's also out of the weights means the follow up is unlikely.

Thrived last summer, completing a Newton Abbot 4-timer over fences in September. Form nosedived after but firmly back on track returned to that venue, jumping superbly when a ready winner last month. Confirmed he's as effective elsewhere when shaping well in third at Worcester.

Won the 2022 Becher Chase for Dan Skelton but below par since, looking rusty starting out for new yard a month ago. Difficult ask on more recent form from a long way of the handicap.

Coco Mademoiselle (3/1), Hymac (11/2), Hang In There (7/1), Olivers Travels (15/2), Manothepeople (15/2), Light N Strike (11/1), Stans The Man (11/1), Do No Wrong (11/1), Lord Accord (14/1), Digby (16/1), Only The Bold (18/1), Hold Your Fort (25/1), Lord Lariat (50/1), Jerrash (66/1), Ashtown Lad (80/1)

Verdict

The presence of last year's winner (from a higher mark) HANG IN THERE keeps several of these out of the handicap proper and following a similar prep run to 12 months ago, he could be the answer. Coco Mademoiselle is sure to be popular as a chaser on the up for his leading yard, while Manothepeople is also a threat, particularly in the blinkers help him travel.
