Made a belated start to his career but made up for lost time by winning his first 2 starts on the all-weather in March. Going the right way in handicaps, for all he hasn't been seen to best effect in steadily run races. This longer trip should suit and he remains open to improvement.

Beat a useful type in testing conditions at Haydock (8.2f) last season. Fit from the jumps but likely found firm ground too lively on reappearance and was unable to show his best over a slowly run race over 10f at Windsor earlier this month. Prefers it softer but could improve for the stiffer test.

Still without a win on these shores but ran well from his falling handicap mark on fourth start for James Owen, losing little in defeat when third behind a less-exposed pair at Goodwood (14f) 15 days ago, pulling clear of the rest. Respected and should remain competitive from this mark.

Typically travels well and has proved as good as ever on the all-weather this season. Is worth persevering with from lower turf mark having showed plenty when runner-up at this course (11.8f) 2 weeks ago, running on. Step up in trip will suit and he should be in the mix here.

Back to winning ways when making all in 5-runner handicap at Beverley (12.1f, good) last month but couldn't defy a career high mark at Catterick when sixth of 8 in a handicap (15.9f) earlier this month. Has a bit to find from the same mark in a better race.

Improved from debut when runner-up behind a fairly useful sort at Beverley and was able to reverse the form with that horse when gamely landing a 9-runner novice at Doncaster 13 days ago, having been suited by the galloping track. Could improve again for the longer trip on handicap debut.

Forecasts

Gravitas (15/8), Heathen (5/2), Turquino (4/1), Nap Hand (15/2), Percy Shelley (8/1), Kitsune Power (12/1), My Harrison George (14/1)

Verdict

TURQUINO hasn't been seen to best effect in handicaps to date but the combination of a longer trip and drop in class may see him record a third victory in 5 career starts. Last time out winner Gravitas is feared most now stepping up in distance, with William Buick an eye-catching jockey on handicap debut, while Nap Hand may relish this stiffer test having been unsuited by a slowly-run 10f at Windsor last time.
