Very progressive on AW but struggled back on turf at Haydock (1½m) last month. Might be best to look elsewhere kept to the grass.

Sam Hawkens³⁵

Age: 4| Weight: 9-9| J: Harry Burns⁽³⁾| T: W J Haggas| OR: 88

3/1

Heavy-ground winner over this trip for Richard Hannon who made it fourth time lucky for his present yard when registering a cosy success at Newcastle (12.5f) 27 days ago. 7 lb rise for that looks fair and he's very much one to consider back on turf.

Form: 5445-41

(9)

Minstrel Knight²¹⁸

Age: 4| Weight: 9-9| J: K Stott| T: E Bethell| OR: 88

13/2

Three wins in a solid 3-y-o campaign. Ended that campaign with a respectable mid-field finish in the November Handicap at Doncaster. In good hands and no surprise were he to improve again this season.

Form: 123110-

Form: 5712-11

(5)

Per Contra¹⁵

(4)

Savrola¹⁸

Age: 6| Weight: 8-12| J: Kaiya Fraser| T: Mrs Dianne Sayer| OR: 77

Forecasts

King's Scholar (2/1), Sam Hawkens (3/1), Savrola (6/1), Minstrel Knight (13/2), Steel Tiger (9/1), La Pulga (16/1), Per Contra (18/1), Letsbefrank (22/1), Destinado (25/1), Forza Orta (25/1), Alnayef (33/1), Tafsir (50/1)

SAM HAWKENS won a competitive race at Newcastle and even a 7 lb rise may not stop him now he's found his feet for William Haggas. Thriving last-time-out C&D winner King's Scholar rates an obvious danger, while Per Contra is also shortlisted on the back of a good run at Chester a fortnight ago.
