Had usual headgear discarded when ending losing run stretching back just over 3 years in 5-runner handicap at Beverley (10f) last month (race working out well). Backed that up when a ready winner at Nottingham (10.2f) 8 days ago. Still on a fair mark and remains of interest bidding for hat-trick.

7 career wins have come on the all-weather, 6 at Lingfield including most recent when landing a valuable handicap for the grade over 12f in April. Bounced back from a disappointing run when promising fifth at Yarmouth (10.1f) last month, unlucky not have placed. That form puts him right in the mix.

Sole win came in France back in 2021. However, he was runner-up 4 times last year (under this jockey) and shaped as if better for the run after 5 months off when eleventh of 21 in handicap at Doncaster (8f, good, 7/2) 74 days ago. Makes appeal back up in trip.

Some promise in maidens and showed improvement on handicap debut following 7 months off when fourth of 13 in handicap at Kempton (8f, 14/1) 22 days ago, still showed signs of inexperience, kept on under pressure. Interesting contender if staying the longer trip.

Winner of 10f handicap at Lingfield in January but disappointed in two subsequent all-weather starts. Given a 6-week break prior to shaping better than the bare result when fourth of 6 in Bath (10f) handicap last month, made effort earlier than ideal. Chance if she can build on that run.

Left behind string of disappointing efforts on the Flat when third in a 2m Warwick handicap hurdle and looked more himself back on the level when runner-up with a visor reapplied at Brighton (11.9f) 13 days ago. Should be competitive if headgear has the same effect.

Dual 10f winner at Chelmsford under Alice Tregoning and ran creditably under same jockey when fourth over the same C&D (following 11 weeks) 21 days ago. In good heart but remains to be seen if he can prove as effective back on turf (all 4 victories on all-weather to date).

Fairly useful at best but struggled to make an impact last year. Ran well stepped back up to 10f following 7 months off when runner-up at Chelmsford 3 weeks ago, having made effort earlier than ideal. Cheekpieces reapplied and remains on a handy mark for trainer/jockey who won this in 2024.

Arrives in good form, shaping better than the beaten distance over 1m at Doncaster prior to a creditable third upped markedly in trip at Wolverhampton (14f). Drops back to 10f with cheekpieces reapplied but likely to find a few too good again.

9-y-o is well treated on the best of his old form and shaped with credit when fourth in a 1½m amateur jockeys handicap (had finished first and second in the last 2 renewals of the race) at Haydock 13 days ago. Drop in trip no issue and should go well again.

Fair form in handicaps for Richard Hughes last year and shaped well in a change of headgear (now removed) on stable debut/reappearance when seventh of 13 in a handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 45 days ago, racing closer to pace than ideal. May come on for that but tougher test up in grade/trip.

Forecasts

Unplugged (3/1), Warning Sign (18/5), Dawn Of Liberation (9/2), Enthused (9/2), Obsidian Knight (9/1), Alazwar (11/1), Tex (16/1), Faster Bee (18/1), Ellexis (18/1), Liberated Lad (33/1), Meadram (33/1)

Verdict

Despite all his wins having come on the all-weather, OBSIDIAN KNIGHT proved his effectiveness on turf when an unlucky fifth at Yarmouth 2 weeks ago and shouldn't be underestimated in this company. Dawn of Liberation landed the double with authority at Nottingham and should make a bold bid for the hat-trick, while Warning Sign is respected stepping back up in trip. Alazwar bounced back to form last time and deserves an honourable mention for last year's winning trainer/jockey combination.
