Tumbled down the weights following a poor second half of last season but returned to form after 5 months off when second of 17 in handicap at Doncaster (5f) 23 days ago. Losing run stretches back to 2023 but he's evidently capable of making a splash from this mark.

Three wins from 10 runs last year, latterly at Southwell (6f) in August. 33/1, never involved in a stronger affair when tenth of 18 in handicap at York (6f, soft) in September and possible this first start for 7 months will bring him on (won second time out last term).

Made a fine start for present yard on AW in recent months, readily bringing up the hat-trick in 8-runner handicap (11/2) at Southwell (6.1f) 25 days ago. Effective on turf and he has to merit respect in this sort of form despite a career-high mark to defy.

Dual C&D winner last season who ended last year with success at Newcastle in November and, after 5 months off, picked up where he left off when going in again there last month. Not in same form when fifth in 9-runner C&D handicap 10 days ago but he's respected nevertheless.

Dual winner of 7f handicaps on turf last summer who ended the campaign in good heart, not beaten far when sixth of 9 in handicap at Newcastle in November. Resumes operating 2 lb above last winning mark and interesting what the market makes of him back at 6f.

C&D winner who was perked up by the application of cheekpieces when landing back-to-back handicaps at Carlisle (5.8f) last summer. Below best back up in grad final 2 starts and the headgear is discarded on return to action.

Consistent sort who deservedly landed back-to-back 5f handicaps in the mud at Pontefract last autumn. Signed off with a respectable fifth of 9 in handicap at Musselburgh (5f, good to soft) in November and he's worth a look on return.

20/1
5-y-o mare who was well suited by the switch to all-weather when making all in 10-runner handicap at Southwell (5f) in December. Very much shaped as if needing the run after 5 months off when sixteenth of 17 in handicap at Doncaster (5f, good) 23 days ago and better showing anticipated.

Two turf wins last autumn but has had issues at the start on AW this winter and she ran well below her best when in refitted hood (discarded here) when last of 11 in handicap at Newcastle (6f) 54 days ago. Needs to get back on track returned to turf.

Forecasts

Abate (11/4), Lord Abama (4/1), Kats Bob (9/2), Inanna (13/2), Profiteer (7/1), Patontheback (11/1), Late Arrival (18/1), Runninwild (18/1), Happier (20/1)

Verdict

A dual C&D winner last season, LORD ABAMA wasn't at his best when fifth on his latest outing here 10 days ago, yet a return to forcing tactics can see Michael Dods' charge in a better light and he shades the vote to come out on top. Abate following his good reappearance second at Doncaster and Kats Bob, who arrives in fine form from all-weather, are others to consider.
