Lightly-raced for his age (presumably had issues). Well-backed when bouncing back to form in December 2023, landing a 3-runner Doncaster handicap hurdle in first-time cheekpieces. Had a pipe-opener on Flat (after 15 months off) 9 days ago and one to note in betting back down in grade over timber.

Scored at Fakenham in April but both efforts following 3 months off at Southwell/Hereford in October were poor. Likely needed the run after further 5 months off when well-held at Sedgefield last month and has now slipped to 5 lb below his last winning mark. Well-treated if back on song.

Strong form for the grade when third in a 16-runner handicap at Wetherby in December and has been knocking on the door since, twice runner-up and shaping well when fourth in a stronger race at Musselburgh (23.8f) 13 days ago, faring best of those held up. Excellent claims racing off the same mark.

C&D winner on a losing run stretching back to 2022. Well below form over the autumn and fared little better on return after 3 months off when last in a 3-runner event at Catterick (25.3f) in March before again trailing the field at Wetherby later in the month. Difficult to fancy on recent evidence.

Dual chase winner belatedly got off the mark over hurdles when landing a C&D handicap in February. Bled when disappointing at Southwell 12 days later but no apparent excuse when well-held third back over this C&D 2 weeks ago. Wouldn't be a surprise to see a better effort in first-time cheekpieces.

Forecasts

Star Vantage (10/11), Ocean Legacy (11/4), The Wise Traveller (11/2), Fabuleux Du Clos (8/1), Balkotic (14/1)

Verdict

Having finished fourth in a stronger handicap last time, STAR VANTAGE can gain a deserved first success back down in grade. The Wise Traveller is on a workable mark and could be a danger if back on song, while Fabuleux du Clos has the form to win this but needs to prove his wellbeing having not been seen over hurdles since December 2023.
