First two legs of recent hat-trick came over C&D, the last a win at Southwell at the end of January, only kept up to his work late on. Combination of a stronger race / drop in trip and lack of tongue-tie brought winning run to a halt but could well get back on track at 7f with tongue tie refitted.

Showed ability as a two year old but unable to carry that promise into his 3-y-o season, disappointing when last on handicap debut in August. Drops back a furlong for his return following wind surgery, with cheekpieces added. Difficult to be confident unless market vibes suggest otherwise.

C&D winner has been somewhat unlucky, things again didn't go his way when encountering a troubled passage when fourth of 7 in handicap at Lingfield (6f) in January but had no excuses when well-held at Chelmsford last month. Worth a go in cheekpieces. Each-way claims back at 7f.

Twenty-seven runs since last win in 2022 and has been out of sorts this year, faring no better when sixth of 8 in handicap (40/1) at Kempton (7f) 12 days ago. Best to look elsewhere.

Feasibly handicapped and returned to form on penultimate run when fourth at this venue (6f) in February but couldn't back up that performance when disappointing here later that month. Down in grade again and interesting now tackling this longer trip.

Improved on his most recent efforts to win 9-runner handicap over C&D and ran as well in defeat next time, only bettered by a well-handicapped rival at Kempton (7f) last month. Remains of interest from his current mark.

Returned to form from a falling mark when ridden by an inexperienced jockey last time, good second of 8 in handicap at this C&D 44 days ago. Tongue strap back on with more experienced claimer in the saddle. Place claims.

C&D winner wasn't suited by the lack of pace when fifth of 8 in handicap at this C&D 44 days ago, and while he may get a stronger gallop on this occasion, he remains a long time without a win.

Usually a front-runner, last seen finishing ninth of 11 in handicap at Brighton (9.9f, good, 12/1), having forced a strong pace. Drops back in trip on reappearance and might just need the run.

Forecasts

Ash Wednesday (9/5), South Dakota Sioux (9/4), Lequinto (11/2), Triggered (9/1), Macanudo (12/1), Ever Driven (14/1), Kristal Klear (14/1), Capuchinero (16/1), Soar Above (50/1), Letter Of The Law (100/1)

Verdict

Having rattled off a hat-trick of wins, ASH WEDNESDAY wasn't seen to best effect back at 6f in a stronger race last time and with regular tongue-tie now refitted, he can make his return to this trip, grade and course a winning one. South Dakato Sioux arrives in great heart following a victory and very creditable second in his last two starts, while Macanudo makes some appeal dropped into a 0-65 handicap back at 7f.
