Captain Ivan^p,t²⁸

Age: 11| Weight: 12-0| J: Craig Nichol| T: Ewan Whillans| OR: 104

8/1

Won back-to-back handicap chases in June 2023 for previous yard. Bettered first 2 performances for Ewan Whillans when fourth in a 6-runner Ayr handicap (16.5f, soft) last month but was almost certainly flattered in closing up late in a strongly-run race. Likely to find one or two too good.

Bread And Butter^t¹⁵

Age: 10| Weight: 11-13| J: Lewis Saunders⁽⁷⁾| T: O Murphy| OR: 103| C

2/1

Back to form since undergoing a wind op, winning 3 handicap hurdles on the bounce this winter. Good run came to a grinding halt at Southwell recently and 0-8 over fences but resumes in this sphere on an attractive mark (5 lb below latest hurdles success), so a case can certainly be made.

Onesoc⁸^{(ex 7)}

Age: 8| Weight: 11-11| J: Peter Kavanagh⁽³⁾| T: J Parkinson & S Smith| OR: 94| D

1/1

Shaped well in a Catterick handicap hurdle following almost 2 years off in January. Built on that in a major way returned to this sphere at the same course (19.2f, good to soft) last week, easily seeing off a bang in-form rival in Ideallko. Will take plenty of stopping under a penalty.

Form: 3134/41

Ballywood^p,t⁴⁹

Age: 11| Weight: 11-6| J: Tabitha Worsley⁽³⁾| T: G Howell| OR: 96

8/1

Evidently isn't the force of old but tumbled in the weights and best effort for present yard when second of 8 in a C&D handicap chase in December. Not so good at Warwick next time, though, and he looks vulnerable.

Brickadank^b1,t⁵

Age: 9| Weight: 10-2| J: Alice Stevens⁽³⁾| T: Micky Hammond| OR: 74| CD

22/1

Took 37 attempts to get off the mark before recording back-to-back wins here last spring. However, no show in a handful of appearances so far this season. Sterner headgear tried.

Forecasts

Onesoc (1/1), Bread And Butter (2/1), Captain Ivan (8/1), Ballywood (8/1), Brickadank (22/1)

It's hard to look beyond ONESOC, who proved better than ever when scoring at Catterick recently and it's no surprise that connections are keen to get him out quickly under a penalty with a hefty rise in the weights inevitable when reassessed. Bread And Butter is potentially well treated in this sphere and looks the best bet for the forecast ahead of Captain Ivan.
