Dual winner last season who didn't appear to relish a slog when fifth of 8 in handicap hurdle at Cartmel (25.4f, soft, 12/1) 25 days ago, unsuited by emphasis on stamina. Not taken lightly back over shorter.

Proved as good as ever when winning at Market Rasen in May and typically gave his running when fourth of 15 in a competitive handicap at Galway (2m) last time, barely adequate test. Return to this trip more suitable and looks to have excellent claims back down in grade.

Unreliable veteran who ran better than for a while when second in a Market Rasen handicap hurdle last month. However, ran no sort of race back over fences at Bangor since.

Capitalised on a falling mark at Cartmel in July and ran creditably back on the level at Carlisle the following month. Rare below par effort back at aforementioned track last time and type to bounce back now returned to a longer trip.

Took a big step back in the right direction when third of 8 in handicap hurdle at Cartmel (22.1f, heavy, 4/1) 23 days ago, rapid headway to lead after 2 out but no extra late on. Looks sure to come good again soon, especially if allowed his head.

Much improved when making a winning handicap debut at Perth in June, kept up to work. Failed to raise his game as required up 6 lb into a higher-class handicap at Perth 9 weeks later and has stamina to prove now upped in trip.

Forecasts

Kaleb (5/2), The Churchill Lad (4/1), Nayati (11/2), Ashington (6/1), Well Educated (6/1), Kinbara Firstdraft (10/1), Baron De Midleton (14/1), Aramax (16/1)

Verdict

KALEB has developed into a likeable sort and, with the return to this trip sure to suit, he's taken to make the most of the drop back in grade. The Churchill Lad is down to a good mark and looks interesting following a much more encouraging run at Cartmel last month, especially if allowed his head, while Ashington is the type to bounce back quickly from a below-par display.
