Resumed winning ways when making all at Goodwood (7f, good to firm) in June before struggling in valuable handicaps at Royal Ascot and Newmarket's July meeting. Good chance he will bounce back now returned to 0-95 company.

Smart on his day but appears to be at his best on the AW and, having been limited to just 4 starts in 2023, he finished down the field on his belated seasonal reappearance/yard debut at York last month.

Useful ex-French performer who ran creditably on return from 6 months off when keeping-on fifth in Thirsk Hunt Cup in May. Has failed to make an impact in 2 subsequent starts, albeit in stronger handicaps than this and his mark is now on the slide.

Didn't need to improve to win 11-runner handicap at Wolverhampton (7.2f) in March and followed that with a good second at Musselburgh. Hasn't put his best foot forward since, though, (again looking ungainly at York last time) and others make more appeal.

Made it 2-2 on the AW when scoring with plenty to spare on return/first run since being gelded at Southwell (7f) in April. However, while it's been a struggle back on turf in recent months and he trailed in last of 20 in the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket last time.

Something of a Chester specialist but has won twice over this C&D in the past and again shaped as though his turn may be near when putting in good late work to finish fifth of 11 back on the Roodee last weekend. Lurking on a good mark and he's firmly in calculations.

Made up into a pretty useful 2-y-o, winning a nursery at the big Goodwood meeting on his third start. However, went backwards from his reappearance fifth when only tenth of 17 at York since and blinkers are now enlisted.

Raised his game considerably when landing a big-field York handicap (7f, good) in good style at the end of May. Didn't enjoy the best of runs when third at Ascot last time and it's not hard to envisage this 3-y-o playing a leading role.

Forecasts

Mirsky (10/3), Boardman (4/1), Burdett (9/2), Serried Ranks (6/1), Finn's Charm (6/1), Persuasion (6/1), Lowton (8/1), Street Kid (9/1), Mustajaab (11/1), Rhythm Master (18/1)

Verdict

The vote goes to BURDETT, who didn't do much wrong when third in a 16-runner affair at Ascot last month and this 3-y-o could still be on a good mark. Boardman has been given a chance by the handicapper and, judged on recent efforts, he appears to be coming back to the boil, while Finn's Charm is also of strong interest back in calmer waters. David O'Meara is likely to find the key to French-import Mirsky before long and he is another for the shortlist.
