Sparsely campaigned in recent seasons, but he's returned as good as ever, placed all 4 starts, including at Royal Ascot. Mark continues to creep up but still has a big shout back down in class.

Been a fine servant for his owner/trainer, following up his Redcar win with another career best in a stronger race here back over 1¼m last month. Backed that up with good third back down in trip here (7.9f) 2 weeks ago and remains of interest tackling the longest trip he's faced so far.

Won 3 times last season. including over C&D on final start, and posted a career-best display when winning 14-runner Thirsk handicap (12f, heavy) in April. Below par both starts since, however.

Losing run is mounting up but his mark is slipping and was better than the bare result at Chelmsford 3 weeks ago. Back down in trip.

Cracksman colt who landed a 1m Ayr nursery in the autumn and returned with an excellent second at Ascot. Well held at the Royal Meeting there since but this easier.

Pretty smart at his best for Andrew Balding but it's 16 runs since last win and failed to build on the promise of his previous run when last of 15 in handicap at this course (10.2f, good to soft) 15 days ago.

Forecasts

Ziggy (5/2), City Burglar (3/1), Theory Of Tides (3/1), Ron O (10/3), Charging Thunder (9/2), Two Brothers (7/1), Masekela (25/1)

Verdict

THEORY OF TIDES was well held tried in a Group 2 at Royal Ascot but he looked a good prospect when winning a couple of novices so is worth another chance off what looks a fair opening mark. Ron O and Ziggy both arrive at the top of their game so look the obvious threats.

  1. Ron O10/3
