Dinosaurs Amateur Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle

Off time: 16:47 | Winning time: 4m 8.50s

Ashington^v²⁷

Age: 9| Weight: 12-0| J: Mr Paddy Barlow⁽⁵⁾| T: M Walford| OR: 110

15/2

Losing run stretches back to March 2022 but put in a good shift over fences when third at Sedgefield last month. Failed to stay 3m in a Hexham chase last time and worth treating as if still in form back hurdling.

Form: 4835-35

Jeepydoff Meel²⁵⁰

Age: 6| Weight: 11-13| J: Mr Henry Main⁽⁵⁾| T: P A Kirby| OR: 109

25/1

Got off the mark at Market Rasen (18.5f) last June and also runner-up in novices on 3 other occasions in the first half of last season. Absent since pulling up in a Sedgefield handicap last October. Betting perhaps the best guide after 8 months off.

Form: 12242P-

Sweet Street³²

Age: 9| Weight: 11-13| J: Miss Clara Brewitt⁽⁷⁾| T: Mrs M Rowley| OR: 109

40/1

Fairly useful hurdle winner earlier in his career but below that level over fences in Ireland in recent years. More recent point efforts also nothing to get excited about but is worth a betting check back hurdling for a new stable.

Form: 84443-7

Allbetsoff^h²⁷

Age: 8| Weight: 11-12| J: Callum Pritchard⁽⁷⁾| T: M Walford| OR: 108

9/2

Notched 3 wins in the first half of last season and resumed winning ways 2m Hexham handicap 4 weeks ago. Likely to remain competitive after a 3 lb nudge.

Form: 4104-81

Fazayte^p,t¹⁴

Age: 9| Weight: 11-12| J: Mr D McGill⁽³⁾| T: R Potter| OR: 108

25/1

Hurdle and chase winner who has recorded 2 creditable efforts over fences this month. Tongue strap back on. Not discounted.

Form: 1/11U-33

Langton Wold²⁷

Age: 5| Weight: 11-11| J: Murray Dodd⁽⁵⁾| T: B Ellison| OR: 107| DWS

13/2

Fair Flat winner who opened his account over hurdles at the third attempt in maiden at Sedgefield (17f) on Boxing Day. Creditable fourth in a handicap hurdle in February. Fit from Flat, respectable third on chase debut 4 weeks ago. Has had his wind operated on since.

Form: 2214-3

Mermaids Cave¹⁴

Age: 5| Weight: 11-11| J: Mr Alex Chadwick| T: James Owen| OR: 107| CD

4/1

Has sprouted wings since joining James Owen, completing a handicap hurdle hat-trick over C&D at the end of May. Not seen to best effect from well off the pace when fifth at Newton Abbot a fortnight ago and might be premature to think the handicapper has got her.

Form: 37-1115

Yukon^v³⁰

Age: 7| Weight: 11-9| J: Mr P J Cawley⁽³⁾| T: James Moffatt| OR: 105| D

40/1

Fair maiden on Flat but struck at first time of asking over hurdles in maiden at Sedgefield in October 2022. Also second in a C&D handicap just over a year ago but pulled up in a course handicap on her reappearance a month ago.

Form: 34/20P-P

Restandbethankful^t¹⁴

Age: 8| Weight: 11-4| J: Mr Sean P O'Connor⁽⁵⁾| T: Lizzie Quinlan| OR: 100| D

12/1

Notched second success over fences at Sedgefield last October and runner-up off his lower hurdle mark at Cartmel in January. Probably in better heart than his recent form figures might suggest and not discounted.

Form: 2209-84

Calevade^p²⁰

Age: 8| Weight: 11-4| J: Mr John Dawson| T: B Haslam| OR: 100| CD

10/3

Dual C&D winner last summer, including this race. Lost his way earlier but a recent outing on the Flat at Catterick wasn't too bad and he merits respect under John Dawson at a venue which suits.

Form: 3824P6-

Bathgate⁷⁰

Age: 4| Weight: 11-0| J: Mr Shay Halton⁽⁷⁾| T: P A Kirby| OR: 101

33/1

Offered little in bumpers but more promising signs when reaching the frame in a couple of maiden hurdles for Tom Weston this spring. Has a much less exposed profile than the majority of these and it'll be very interesting to see what the betting makes of him on his handicap and yard debut.

Form: 7843-

Mr Rumbalicious³²

Age: 5| Weight: 10-2| J: Miss Heidi Palin⁽⁵⁾| T: James Moffatt| OR: 83| CD

16/1

Successful twice on the level last spring and overcame market weakness to make a winning handicap hurdle debut over C&D last August. Has failed to complete in his 3 outings since but he may have needed his latest outing here after 5 months off.

Form: 25/1RU-P

Pittsburg^t⁹

Age: 8| Weight: 10-2| J: Freddie Keighley⁽⁷⁾| T: R Potter| OR: 83| D

16/1

Dual chaser winner last summer. Also scored on AW Flat in March but well held back jumping in recent weeks.

Form: 230-505

Rhyme Scheme^t¹³

Age: 7| Weight: 10-2| J: Miss Lauren Sanders⁽⁷⁾| T: P Winks| OR: 74

66/1

Regressive on the Flat and poor form over hurdles. Was fourth of 10 in a 2m Hexham handicap 13 days ago but he has to race from 10 lb out of the handicap here.

Form: PF/57-P4

Forecasts

Calevade (10/3), Mermaids Cave (4/1), Allbetsoff (9/2), Langton Wold (13/2), Ashington (15/2), Restandbethankful (12/1), Pittsburg (16/1), Mr Rumbalicious (16/1), Jeepydoff Meel (25/1), Fazayte (25/1), Bathgate (33/1), Sweet Street (40/1), Yukon (40/1), Rhyme Scheme (66/1)

MERMAIDS CAVE wasn't seen to best effect at Newton Abbot last time and might be worth another chance back at the scene of her win at the end of last month. Last year's winner Calevade arrives on the back of a respectable effort on the Flat 3 weeks ago and could make a bold bid to defend his crown under John Dawson. Phil Kirby handicap newcomer Bathgate and recent Hexham scorer Allbetsoff complete the shortlist.
