20/1
Three-time winner in 2022/23, including over C&D and perked up by return to positive tactics/refitting of a visor when winning at Warwick/here in the autumn. Proved disappointing in 2 starts thereafter but given a break since and refitting of cheekpieces could put an extra edge on him.

Consistent sort who notched third success over fences when scoring in good style over C&D in January. Respectable efforts in defeat have followed, good second back here 17 days ago and he ought to give his running again from revised mark.

Dual winner over fences last summer and held form well over both sets of obstacles thereafter. Opened his account on the level at Kempton (11f) in March and far from disgraced on 2 of his 3 starts in that sphere since. Not out of things returned to chasing.

Ex-pointer who was a fairly useful winner on only start in bumpers but ran a good way below that level on completed starts over hurdles during 2022/23 season. Lengthy absence to overcome now attentions switch to chasing/following wind op but he arrives with his yard amongst the winners.

9/2
Hurdles winner last summer and confirmed chase debut promise under a positive ride back down in trip (jumped boldly) when successful at Taunton (2m, soft) in March. Very much the type to do better from his low base and well worth considering once more.

Opened his hurdles account for Fergal O'Brien in December but has struggled for this stable since. Returns to chasing with a bit to prove (unseated sole previous try in this sphere).

Fair hurdles winner in Ireland in 2021 but hasn't shown much in handful of starts for present connections, only fifth of 9 in C&D handicap chase 17 days ago having raced freely. Others boast much more compelling claims.

Maiden who produced best effort in this sphere when third at Ffos Las (2m) in October. However, not in same form thereafter (often let down by jumping) and pulled up back over hurdles at Wincanton (19.8f) in March. Return to 2m rates a likely plus back over fences.

Offered more when second on Ffos Las chase debut last spring but has failed to build on that, adding to a patchy record when pulled up at Ludlow in February. Passed over operating from out of the weights.

Forecasts

Famoso (3/1), Tonto Foley (9/2), Ballymagee (9/2), Pittsburg (5/1), Big Jim Beam (5/1), Uncle Arthur (9/1), Man Of Light (10/1), Ben Buie (20/1), Beannaigh Do (40/1), Whyzzat (40/1)

Verdict

TONTO FOLEY was well suited by positive tactics when opening his chase account in good style at Taunton in March, going with plenty of zest/jumping boldly. Open to further progress from a low base, he earns the vote to follow up. Famoso continues in form and is respected, with Big Jim Beam also one to note on belated return/chase debut with the Warren Greatrex yard amongst the winners.
