Made an encouraging start when second of 7 in a Thirsk novice (1m) on debut in September. Disappointed turned out quickly when fifth of 8 in maiden at Newcastle (1m) later that month but gelded/had wind op ahead of return and no surprise to see a better showing.

Calyx gelding who had undergone wind surgery and shaped with plenty of promise when fourth of 13 in maiden (4/1) at Newcastle (8f) on debut 21 days ago, making steady headway from 2f out. Very much one to note with that run behind him.

Make Believe gelding. 100/1, showed only greenness when tenth of 13 in maiden at Newcastle (8f) on debut 21 days ago, very slowly away and always behind. Can only be watched on the back of that.

Cheap purchase who looked green and ultimately offered little when eighth of 9 in a Newcastle novice (5f) on debut back in October. Passed over on return to action.

€80,000 foal, 20,000 gns yearling, Showcasing filly. Sister to useful 2-y-o 6f winner Showout and closely related to French 7.5f/1m winner Living Desert. Dam winner up to 1½m (2-y-o 7f winner). Betting should provide some clues on debut.

Forecasts

Old Cock (1/4), Miaswell (11/2), Strike Rate (12/1), Crown's Lady (22/1), Racing Vicar (28/1)

Verdict

OLD COCK shaped with plenty of promise without being seen to best effect when fourth on debut in a Newcastle maiden (1m) 3 weeks ago and very much the type to do better on that evidence, he looks to have been found a good opening. The returning Miaswell can emerge as the chief danger, ahead of newcomer Crown's Lady.
