Modest maiden on Flat for Richard Fahey but hasn't been able to match that level in 3 starts over hurdles so far, well held in novice at Cartmel when last seen 8 months ago. Has plenty to find on his return.

Fair hurdler for Stuart Crawford and, after 18 months off, showed that he retains plenty of ability when third in maiden at this C&D in October. Struggled in 2 starts over fences since, but no surprise to see him get back on track returned to hurdling. Major player.

Well held in a 2-finisher point and hasn't offered much in 2 novice hurdles, in first-time tongue strap when failing to beat a rival at this course (19.8f) in November. Has had a wind op since, with hood now reached for.

Mid-field both starts in bumpers for Roger McGrath in Ireland last summer. Showed some ability sent hurdling when third of 8 in maiden at this course (19.8f) in January, but beaten a long way out at Catterick 12 days later. Not discounted back here.

Modest on Flat and little encouragement in 2 starts over hurdles, faring no better in reapplied-visor when down the field in novice at Ayr in December. Looks to be up against it.

Modest winner at 2m on the Flat last year, but tailed off on his hurdles bow when eleventh of 13 in novice at Doncaster last month. Best watched.

Modest performer on Flat (stays 12.5f), who won 3 times in 2023. Even keener than usual when well held in handicap at Newcastle (12.4f) on his latest outing in December and hood now applied as he goes over hurdles. Watch for market clues.

Fairly useful handicapper on Flat, stays 10f. After 5 months off (had a wind op), looked rusty on first run since leaving George Boughey when fifth of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 25 days ago. One to consider on his hurdles bow.

Promise when runner-up in the first of 2 bumpers at Ayr last season, but has looked one for further down the line in 2 maiden hurdles at the same course, left behind before 4 out when sixth of 14 on his latest outing.

Only poor form in bumpers and has made little impact both starts over hurdles, seventh of 8 in novice at Newcastle 8 months ago. Needs to leave his previous efforts behind on his reappearance.

Modest maiden on the Flat who finished well held at Newcastle on his hurdles debut. However, shaped better when runner-up in Kelso novice 24 days ago, staying on but no match for the easy winner. Enters calculations.

Forecasts

Final Edgar (11/8), Arlo (5/2), Trailblazer (9/2), River Ayr (12/1), Endofconversation (16/1), Rouse (22/1), Paris Lights (25/1), Oscar Doodle (33/1), Gold Ring (33/1), Golden Valour (50/1), Acoustic (125/1)

Verdict

A fair hurdler in Ireland, ARLO shaped encouragingly on his stable debut when third at this C&D on his reappearance, so he is taken to leave his subsequent efforts over fences behind and open his account. Trailblazer stepped forward from his hurdles debut when runner-up at Kelso last time and could be the main danger, ahead of Paris Lights.
