Son of Le Havre who improved on debut form (having been gelded) when winning 14-runner minor event at Chelmsford (10f) 42 days ago, well positioned. Up in trip and feasible to think he can do better again.

Promising individual who improved on his opening 2 efforts when second of 9 in maiden at Wolverhampton (8.6f, 11/8) 9 days ago, clear of rest. Significantly up in trip and possibilities with further progress likely.

Ulysses colt. Well backed and shaped promisingly when second of 7 in maiden at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 12 days ago, bumped by winner over 1f out and just failing. Has since left Ralph Beckett and he's well up to winning similar event on that evidence.

Fair colt. Cheekpieces on for 1st time, first run since leaving Ralph Beckett when creditable second of 6 in nursery at Lingfield (10f, AW, 8/1) 33 days ago, needing stronger gallop. Visor now the headgear of choice up in trip.

Twice-raced maiden. Ninth of 11 in maiden (125/1) at this course (8.1f) 20 days ago. Significantly up in trip now but he's one for low-grade handicaps in due course.

Forecasts

Pagliacci (6/5), Lord Normandy (7/4), Trojan Storm (9/2), Dunstan (17/2), Alextrician (250/1)

Verdict

An interesting novice with the narrow vote in favour of PAGLIACCI. He showed improved form when runner-up over the extended mile trip at Wolverhampton 9 days ago and promises to do better still now his stamina is tested further. Trojan Storm, a recent acquisition for the Ian Williams yard, shaped well himself on debut recently and may well emerge as the chief threat.
