Winner of the Albert Bartlett at the Cheltenham Festival in March before finishing fourth in another Grade 1 novice hurdle at Aintree. Rallied well when proving 1¾ lengths too strong for The Changing Man (3 lb pull) on return/chase debut at Exeter (24.2f, soft) and he's the one to beat.

Pretty useful hurdler but hasn't covered himself in glory in 2 starts over fences so far, coming home a well-held last of 5 returned to this sphere at Carlisle last month.

Winning pointer who made it 3-3 over hurdles when taking a listed event at Perth in April. Upsides the eventual winner when unseating 3 out on recent return/chase debut at Carlisle and subsequently landed a 4-runner Aintree handicap (25f, heavy). Unexposed and well worth his place in this grade.

Consistent and progressive hurdler last season and further step forward when giving Stay Away Fay a fright on debut over fences at Exeter, with subsequent winner Grey Dawning back in third. Now 3 lb better off with the winner and he's open to improvement.

Forecasts

Stay Away Fay (8/11), Giovinco (5/2), The Changing Man (9/2), Conkwell Legend (66/1)

Verdict

STAY AWAY FAY deserves plenty of credit for pulling the race out of the fire on his chase debut at Exeter where he rallied to get the better of the re-opposing The Changing Man, having looked held when headed at the third-last. This strong stayer will be very much at home on this stiff track and he is taken to uphold the Exeter form, despite meeting the runner-up on 3 lb worse terms. This represents a significant step up in class for Giovinco, but he is unexposed and clearly very promising.
