Made the frame in a trio of bumpers for Dan Skelton but impact over hurdles for this yard has been limited. Step up in trip needs to garner some progress.

Soldier of Fortune gelding who shaped like a stayer when runner-up in bumper at Market Rasen in May. Again looked as if in need of a greater test when sixth of 11 in novice hurdle at Newton Abbot (16.8f, soft, 8/1) on hurdles bow 42 days ago and he's a player now up in trip.

Made a winning debut in a 4-runner Fontwell bumper in April 2022 and showed even better form in defeat after a year off when runner-up at Doncaster next time. Beaten long way out when last seen at Kelso but isn't discounted on the strength of his prior efforts.

Valirann gelding. Showed a bit when fourth of 6 in bumper at Sedgefield (16.8f, soft, 17/2) on NH debut 22 days ago. Probably better for run now but others are preferred.

Looked above average when landing bumper here for Roger Varian (subsequently sold £60,000) last year. Showed promise when second at Stratford (16.3f, good to soft, 4/1) on hurdles bow 35 days ago and may well do better.

Fair on the Flat for William Haggas and got back on the up when second of 7 in handicap hurdle at Huntingdon (19.6f, good to soft) 8 days ago. More exposed than most but sets a good standard.

Placed both start over hurdles for Stuart Crawford but offered nothing after 10-month break at Stratford (22f, heavy) 11 days ago. Bit to prove.

Pulled up both starts in maiden hurdles and is impossible to fancy on that evidence.

SHINJI was a bumper winner here last season and is fancied to build on the promise of his hurdling debut to make it second time lucky over timber. Star Legend ran well in a Huntingdon handicap last time and sets a reasonable standard for his less-experienced opposition to surpass, with Colonel Whizz also a player, the step up in trip appealing as beneficial.
